LAHS NJROTC Cadets Participate In Cibola Military Skills Competition - The Los Alamos Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) traveled on Saturday, February 25 to Cibola High School in Albuquerque to compete in a military skills meet. Battle Ground High School marksmanship team earn top honors at regional event in Utah - This is the first time since 2015 that the team has finished first at the reginal event in Sandy, Utah earlier this month. Click here to watch the video.


Shooting sports: Spartan JROTC earns first place at event - The Moberly Spartan Army JROTC marksmanship team recently won a competition in the Kansas City metro area. The Moberly Sporter group compiled 2,076 points, earning top honors by 182 points. Jenna Walz fired the top score with a 537, followed by MacKenzie Hopper's 532, Joseph Gibbs 509 and Cory Cable 498. Walz recorded the Spartans' best score from the prone position (193) and kneeling (184), and Hopper standing (175). Click here to read the complete article.

WBHS JROTC Air Rifle Team competes in All Army JROTC Service Championship - The Western Brown High School JROTC Air Rifle Team competed in the All Army JROTC Service Championship Feb. 9-11. The Broncos traveled to Camp Perry’s Gary Anderson Range in Port Clinton, Ohio to compete in the Northeast Regional. The true story of the M1 carbine’s creation (it wasn’t ‘Carbine’ Williams) - A popular historical anecdote is the design of the famous M1 carbine by convicted murderer David Marshall Williams. He’s so connected with the weapon that a movie was made about his invention of the M1 titled Carbine Williams, a nickname he adopted. However, while Williams developed the short-stroke gas piston used in the carbine, credit for the weapon’s invention is owed much more to Winchester employees Fred Humiston and William Roemer. TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Since marksmanship education and training is a key component of the CMP’s mission, there are many opportunities for experienced shooters and instructors to receive advanced training in marksmanship so it may be passed on to beginners and aspiring competitors. Check out the upcoming affiliated club clinics.
CMP Garand-Springfield-Modern/Vintage Military Master Instructor Training Workshops. Experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as "Master Instructors" to teach CMP-Sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Modern/Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics are invited to apply to attend a CMP Master Instructor Training Workshop.
Talladega Marksmanship Classes. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park invites you to participate in its weekly firearms safe handling and basic fundamentals classes. New and experienced shooters are welcome. These classes are taught by CMP certified instructors and will include both classroom training and live firing on the Talladega ranges. Materials will cover safety and firearms handling and hands on practical application.
The CMP will be holding several Rifle and Pistol training classes. These classes will be held at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park, the CMP Travel Games events and the National Matches at Camp Perry. The classes, consisting of classroom instruction, range training, and practice, fired on Kongsberg Electronic targets. The classes are structured toward teaching new shooters (both adults and youth alike), so no past firearm experience is required, though intermediate and advanced marksmen are also welcome to participate. 
The CMP Range Officer Training Course is a program developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program to provide training and structured on-the-range work experiences to prepare interested persons to serve as qualified Range Officers in CMP sponsored and sanctioned competitions. There is a course fee of $75.00 for the Level I CMP Range Officer Training course. Applications for the CMP Range Officer Training Course are now available. 
NEWS FROM THE CMP
A HISTORY OF THE OLYMPIC SHOOTING PROGRAM.  A new 19-page history of Olympic Shooting written by Director of Civilian Marksmanship Emeritus and former ISSF Vice President Gary Anderson is now posted on the CMP website’s “Coaching Resources” webpage.  This 19-page article focuses on how Shooting became an Olympic sport, how Olympic Shooting events have changed during the 128 years that Shooting has been an Olympic sport and how new developments in Olympic Shooting like finals and equal participation by women occurred.  Anyone who is interested in Olympic Shooting is invited to download and read the article. Open the “Coaching Resources” webpage and then scroll down to the article that is listed under “History of Target Shooting.”

CMP 1911 Sales Program: Round 3 Announcement – The CMP continues to accept orders to purchase CMP 1911 Type Pistols. CMP State Directors. The mission of the State Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within his or her state. The CMP is currently taking applications for the following states: Delaware, Maine, Nevada, Tennessee, Vermont and Washington. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the "THE HOME OF MARKSMANSHIP" (no membership required) where responsible firearm ownership, safety instruction, and accuracy training reside inside a beautiful 500 acre range facility. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park has something for all types of firearms and firearm owners. The Park prides itself on its friendly - accommodating staff and the time savings of electronic targets.

The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers.
