5th-graders learn to shoot guns by using school gym as target range, Wyoming photos show - A school district in Wyoming recently used a gymnasium as a shooting range, training fifth and sixth grade students in marksmanship during PE. Hot Springs County School District #1, in the small town of Thermopolis, shared photos of the sharpshooting session in a Feb. 2 Facebook post, and it quickly caught the attention of thousands. U.S. Army Soldiers earn several spots on USA National Shotgun Team - Six U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Soldiers earned spots on the National Shotgun Team at USA Shooting’s Winter Shotgun Selection Match in Tucson, Arizona January 11-16. In the Trap discipline, Sgt. Will Hinton, a Dacula, Georgia native, won the Silver Medal after hitting 271 out of 300 targets during the four-days of qualification rounds and a Final. This Silver Medal finish placed him between civilian athletes, Jake Wallace and 2021 Olympian Derrick Mein, who won the Gold and Bronze Medals, respectively. Click here to read the complete article.

Daniel Boone cadet finishes 10th in national marksmanship competition - A Daniel Boone High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training cadet is shooting her way to the top end of some national scoreboards. Sophomore Nanchaya Bailey was invited to compete at the Marine Corps JROTC Service Championship in Arizona after ranking as one of the top Marine Corps JROTC marksmanship team shooters in the nation. Lakeview Air Force JROTC competes at State Marksmanship Championship - Over 150 shooters from 17 schools across Louisiana competed at the Louisiana JROTC State Marksmanship Championship. Go, West! National marksmanship - Good luck to the Manchester high school team that is competing this week in the national Junior Navy ROTC marksmanship event. The Reserve Officer Training Corps junior program here is headquartered at Manchester High School West but draws cadets from all around. The four-member marksman squad has already placed first in a statewide competition. It has now set its sights nationally. It had to compete against 6,000 cadets to get this far. Registration Open for 2022 Shooting Sports Showcase - Leaders of the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA), the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA), and the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) have again partnered to host an industry-exclusive event at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, AL, on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. The Showcase gives firearms industry representatives a day to showcase new products to dealers, wholesalers, and members of the media at one of the most impressive shooting venues in the country. Since marksmanship education and training is a key component of the CMP’s mission, there are many opportunities for experienced shooters and instructors to receive advanced training in marksmanship so it may be passed on to beginners and aspiring competitors. CMP Garand-Springfield-Modern/Vintage Military Master Instructor Training Workshops. Experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as "Master Instructors" to teach CMP-Sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Modern/Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics are invited to apply to attend a CMP Master Instructor Training Workshop.

Talladega Marksmanship Classes. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park invites you to participate in its weekly firearms safe handling and basic fundamentals classes. New and experienced shooters are welcome. These classes are taught by CMP certified instructors and will include both classroom training and live firing on the Talladega ranges. Materials will cover safety and firearms handling and hands on practical application.

The CMP will be holding several Rifle/Pistol Marksmanship 101 classes and the National Match Small Arms Firing Schools. The classes, consisting of classroom instruction, range training, practice and firing a M16 match, fired on Kongsberg Electronic targets. The classes are structured toward teaching new shooters (both adults and youth alike), so no past firearm experience is required, though intermediate and advanced marksmen are also welcome to participate.

The CMP Range Officer Training Course is a program developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program to provide training and structured on-the-range work experiences to prepare interested persons to serve as qualified Range Officers in CMP sponsored and sanctioned competitions. There is a course fee of $75.00 for the Level I CMP Range Officer Training course. Applications for the CMP Range Officer Training Course are now available.

The CMP is in search of individuals to join our efforts during this summer’s National Matches season as members of the CMP National Match Support Team! Support Team member duties may include but are not limited to firing line work as range officers, assistance with stats/scorecards or other tasks assigned as needed during our pistol and rifle events.

CMP Store Update: The CMP South Store in Anniston, Alabama will be closed to allow our staff time to catch up on mail orders. At this time, we do not know our reopening date, but will post one week prior to reopening. The mission of the State Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within his or her state. The CMP is currently taking applications for the following states: Delaware, Tennessee, Vermont and Wyoming. The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers.
