CMP 2022 COMPETITION RULES ARE NOW ONLINE

The annual process of reviewing and updating CMP competition rulebooks is nearing completion with this announcement and the posting of the 2022 rulebooks on the CMP website. The CMP competitions program began in 1996 with only two disciplines, Service Rifle and Service Pistol. CMP competitions have now grown to include separate disciplines for Service Rifle, Service Pistol, .22 Rimfire Pistol, Service Revolver, As-Issued Military Rifle (Garand, Springfield, Vintage Military Rifle, M1 Carbine, Modern Military Rifle, Vintage Sniper Rifle), As-Issued Pistol (M9, M1911, M&P Service Pistol) and Rimfire Sporter Rifle competitions where the CMP is the national governing body. The CMP also issues rules for Match Pistol (3-gun pistol), Long-Range and Mid-Range Rifle, Smallbore Rifle (position and prone), Air Rifle, and Air Pistol to govern events it conducts in conjunction with the National Matches, CMP Competition Games, and other match sanctioning programs.
CMP INTRODUCES NEW RIFLE AND PISTOL CMP LEAGUE MATCHES

Beginning January 2022, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will sanction a series of simulated head-to-head rifle, pistol and CMP Games events for competitors to participate in from their home ranges. 
Known as the CMP League Matches, the new program will be open to any CMP Affiliated Clubs which may hold these events on a weekly, monthly or bi-monthly schedule. An average score will be computed by CMP’s Competition Tracker, with awards distributed to the top competitors from around the country.
WEST VIRGINIA’S NATE GUNN EARNS DISTINGUISHED PISTOL BADGE #1700

“Seasoned competitors perennially give this advice, which I – like many newcomers – ignored when starting out: Train for and shoot every match with your service pistol until you get that badge.” Nate Gunn, 38, of Spencer, West Virginia, recently earned Distinguished Pistol Badge #1700 after just over two and a half years of competing. It was an ambition that he had his eyes on from the start of his marksmanship career and one that he trained extensively to achieve. “My Distinguished Badge ticks off a bucket list item,” he said of earning the honor.
CMP CLUB NEWS: EASTON FISH AND GAME ASSOCIATION GROWS OVER ITS LONG HISTORY

When I joined Easton Fish and Game Association in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, back in the early 1980s, the club used to hold a CMP/DCM style competition every second Sunday from April to October. A total of 40 or 50 shooters would come out for the event, and they made a day out of it. Shooters dressed in shooting coats and gloves, special hats and eyewear. People walked around, talking about Camp Perry – who was going that year, last year’s matches and, that holy grail of shooting, the Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge. It looked very intimidating to a new shooter.

WITH THE HELP OF CMP, USA SHOOTING WRAPS UP 2021 WINTER AIRGUN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Colorado Springs, Colorado- Super-finals, team events, competitive fun, and cash prizes are all part of the Winter Airgun Championships (WAG) hype. With the generous support from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), USA Shooting hosted the end-of-year airgun event for the second consecutive year at both CMP locations in Alabama and Ohio from December 5-12, 2021.

Southern Lehigh Grad Earns National Accolades for Air Rifle - A member of Southern Lehigh High School’s Class of 2018 has earned national accolades in air rifle competition as a student at the University of Akron. The Ohio university reported on its website recently that senior Jeanne Haverhill “garnered national recognition for her efforts in the air rifle at the recently completed 2021 Rifle Winter Airgun National Championships,” which were held Dec. 8-12 in Camp Perry, Ohio and Anniston, Ala. Lollar Adds Two For 2022-23 - Murray State rifle head coach Alana Lollar is pleased to announce the signing of two student-athletes for the 2022-23 school year. Fohi’s MCJROTC marksmanship team takes top honors at Arizona air rifle competition - The Fontana High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (MCJROTC) shooting team performed brilliantly at the first Arizona NRA Junior ROTC Air Rifle Tournament in Arizona on December 4, and proceeded to JROTC for teams and individuals. McDowell High NJROTC earns first place in rifle competition - The McDowell High NJROTC Marksmanship Team recently traveled to Volunteer High School in Tennessee and achieved first place in the annual Reindeer Games Rifle Competition. The cadets who participated in the match were Anthony Escalera, Cole Cook, Calvin Jones, Summer Wyatt, Joseph Cornejo and Daniel Bell. Click here to read the complete article.


Grove City's Ogoreuc runner-up at Junior Indoor Championships - Grove City High freshman Jack Ogoreuc ended as a national runner-up at recent National Rifle Association Junior Indoor 3- and 4-position championships for sub-juniors. The 4-position matches took place at DuBois, while the 3-position championships were contested in the Dormont/Mount Lebanon area. The 14-year-old Ogoreuc also finished 4th at the USA Winter Airgun National Championships for U-15 competitors this past weekend at Camp Perry, Ohio. Click here to read the complete article.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Since marksmanship education and training is a key component of the CMP’s mission, there are many opportunities for experienced shooters and instructors to receive advanced training in marksmanship so it may be passed on to beginners and aspiring competitors. Check out the upcoming affiliated club clinics.
CMP Garand-Springfield-Military Master Instructor Training Workshops. Experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as "Master Instructors" to teach CMP-Sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics are invited to apply to attend a CMP Master Instructor Training Workshop.
Talladega Marksmanship Classes. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park invites you to participate in its weekly firearms safe handling and basic fundamentals classes. New and experienced shooters are welcome. These classes are taught by CMP certified instructors and will include both classroom training and live firing on the Talladega ranges. Materials will cover safety and firearms handling and hands on practical application.
The CMP will be holding several Rifle/Pistol Marksmanship 101 classes and the National Match Small Arms Firing Schools. The classes, consisting of classroom instruction, range training, practice and firing a M16 match, fired on Kongsberg Electronic targets. The classes are structured toward teaching new shooters (both adults and youth alike), so no past firearm experience is required, though intermediate and advanced marksmen are also welcome to participate. 
The CMP Range Officer Training Course is a program developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program to provide training and structured on-the-range work experiences to prepare interested persons to serve as qualified Range Officers in CMP sponsored and sanctioned competitions. There is a course fee of $75.00 for the Level I CMP Range Officer Training course. Applications for the CMP Range Officer Training Course are now available.

Attention Junior Clubs! We’re in search of venues to host our popular Junior Rifle Camps for the summer of 2022. Is yours a good fit?

The camps, which are a mix of intermediate to advanced marksmanship training for Smallbore and Air Rifle athletes, require a location that:
  • Holds ample space for targets/firing points/group training
  • Is in close proximity to airports/hotels
  • Includes existing internet accessibility

CMP Store Update: The CMP South Store in Anniston, Alabama, and CMP North Store in Port Clinton, Ohio, will be closed to allow our staff time to catch up on mail orders. At this time, we do not know our reopening date, but will post one week prior to reopening. CMP State Directors. The mission of the State Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within his or her state. The CMP is currently taking applications for the following states: Delaware, Tennessee, Vermont and Wyoming. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the "THE HOME OF MARKSMANSHIP" (no membership required) where responsible firearm ownership, safety instruction, and accuracy training reside inside a beautiful 500 acre range facility. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park has something for all types of firearms and firearm owners. The Park prides itself on its friendly - accommodating staff and the time savings of electronic targets.  
The CMP's home range is open to the public and allows the visitor to focus on marksmanship instead of spending time hanging paper targets down range. Don't be a Stranger, Come see us at the CMP Range, "The Home of Marksmanship"!
