The M1 Garand was ‘The Greatest Battle Implement Ever Devised’ - Of the many guns to see combat during the Second World War, the M1 Garand was the first standard issue autoloading rifle used by the United States. It was the service rifle assigned to troops in both World War II and the Korean War, and saw use in many other conflicts in the years to follow. The M1 Garand was considered a good rifle, and it performed well in battle. In fact, it held such a great reputation that Gen. USAMU Soldiers Win Six Medals at Grand Prix in Spain - Soldiers with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit International Rifle Team earned the United States six medals at the 2022 International Shooting Sports Federation Grand Prix in Granada, Spain. The international event, which was held May 18-30, brought six Fort Benning, Georgia Soldiers face to face with the top air rifle and smallbore marksmen from across the world. Somerset County 4-H rifle team earns national title - The Somerset County 4-H club's shooting team won first place in the three-position, smallbore rifle event at the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships a few weeks ago in Grand Island, Nebraska. Emily Bennett, Noah Lehman, Sadie Palfrey and Zach Tedrow not only brought home first place with 1,602 points, but also took second place for smallbore silhouette and overall smallbore score. Ogoreuc wins silver at USA Shooting 3 Position National Championships - Rising Grove City sophomore Jack Ogoreuc won the silver medal in his age group on Friday at the USA Shooting 3 Position National Championships in Camp Perry, Ohio. His team won the bronze medal and he earned Distinguished Rifle Badge. Earlier this summer, Ogoreuc competed in the 18U division at the USA Shooting Junior Olympic National Championship. Mariner Tritons JROTC Leadership Team’s air rifle team takes home top-10 finish in national competition - The Mariner Tritons JROTC Leadership Team’s air rifle team showed they belong on the big stage recently, taking home a top-10 finish in national competition. The group of six cadets representing the 18-person component went into both the Junior Olympics and Civilian Marksmanship Program Youth National Championship at Camp Perry in Ohio ranked No. 26 out of 27 teams. They finished 12th in the Junior Olympics and ninth in the 3-position Youth National Championships. Click here to read the complete article.


Oak Creek students represent Colorado at 4-H National Championship - Two Oak Creek teenagers traveled to Grand Island, Nebraska, to compete in the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships from June 26 to 28. Leah Halder, 18, competed in .22 rifle and qualified for nationals for the second-straight year, while Teagan Herold, 15, earned his first nod to nationals after placing in the state competition in compound archery. Mitchell to welcome state's top shooters for 2022 South Dakota trapshooting championships - It’s once again the Mitchell Trap Club’s turn to become the center of attention for the region’s trapshooting scene. As host to the 2022 South Dakota state shoot, Mitchell will welcome the top marksmen from across the state for five days of events, with the shoot running from Wednesday, July 13, through Sunday, July 17. Mitchell last hosted in 2019, as the state shoot is on a rotation that currently includes Aberdeen and Sioux Falls. Click here to read the complete article.


Project Appleseed comes to Tucker County (West Virginia) - Project Appleseed, the “biggest marksmanship program you’ve never heard of”, is coming to Tucker County 30-31 July and 27-28 August.   Project Appleseed is a nationwide program that teaches rifle marksmanship skills that have been passed down from generation to generation and reconnects Americans with the people and events of colonial America. Participants are taught skills that allow a Rifleman to be accurate out to 500 yards using a standard rifle with iron sights. This ability is traditionally known as mastering the ‘Rifleman’s Quarter Mile’ and is an American tradition that has been part of this nation from its very first days. TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Since marksmanship education and training is a key component of the CMP’s mission, there are many opportunities for experienced shooters and instructors to receive advanced training in marksmanship so it may be passed on to beginners and aspiring competitors. Check out the upcoming affiliated club clinics.
CMP Garand-Springfield-Modern/Vintage Military Master Instructor Training Workshops. Experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as "Master Instructors" to teach CMP-Sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Modern/Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics are invited to apply to attend a CMP Master Instructor Training Workshop.
Talladega Marksmanship Classes. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park invites you to participate in its weekly firearms safe handling and basic fundamentals classes. New and experienced shooters are welcome. These classes are taught by CMP certified instructors and will include both classroom training and live firing on the Talladega ranges. Materials will cover safety and firearms handling and hands on practical application.
The CMP will be holding several Rifle/Pistol Marksmanship 101 classes and the National Match Small Arms Firing Schools. The classes, consisting of classroom instruction, range training, practice and firing a M16 match, fired on Kongsberg Electronic targets. The classes are structured toward teaching new shooters (both adults and youth alike), so no past firearm experience is required, though intermediate and advanced marksmen are also welcome to participate. 
The CMP Range Officer Training Course is a program developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program to provide training and structured on-the-range work experiences to prepare interested persons to serve as qualified Range Officers in CMP sponsored and sanctioned competitions. There is a course fee of $75.00 for the Level I CMP Range Officer Training course. Applications for the CMP Range Officer Training Course are now available.

CMP Store Update: The CMP South Store in Anniston, Alabama will be closed to allow our staff time to catch up on mail orders. At this time, we do not know our reopening date, but will post one week prior to reopening. Please visit our other CMP stores (with limited inventory) at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama and the CMP North Store in Port Clinton, Ohio (currently open for National Match competitors only). CMP State Directors. The mission of the State Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within his or her state. The CMP is currently taking applications for the following states: Delaware, Tennessee and Vermont. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the "THE HOME OF MARKSMANSHIP" (no membership required) where responsible firearm ownership, safety instruction, and accuracy training reside inside a beautiful 500 acre range facility. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park has something for all types of firearms and firearm owners. The Park prides itself on its friendly - accommodating staff and the time savings of electronic targets.  
The CMP's home range is open to the public and allows the visitor to focus on marksmanship instead of spending time hanging paper targets down range. Don't be a Stranger, Come see us at the CMP Range, "The Home of Marksmanship"!

The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers.
