CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Looking toward the summer months, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is eagerly anticipating the return of one of the most acclaimed events of the year - the National Rifle and Pistol Matches, held on the historic ranges of Camp Perry. The National Matches has been an honored tradition for generations - first firing on the Camp Perry grounds in 1907 and featuring a lineup of rifle, pistol and air gun events for both seasoned and aspiring marksmanship competitors.

Moberly JROTC cadets compete in air rifle shooting events - By Chuck Embree, Moberly Monitor-Index - Moberly High School JROTC Air Rifle Team are waiting to learn results of their performances from competing at the 2021 Junior Olympic 3 Position Air Rifle (3PAR) Championship held Feb. 26-27 at Ozark High School. Newport Rifle Club offers introduction to handguns course - The Newport Daily News - Newport Rifle Club is offering an introductory pistol safety and marksmanship class Saturday, March 13, in its training facility at 360 Wyatt Road, Middletown. Combining interactive classroom instruction with closely supervised live fire, Basic Pistol is a National Rifle Association course for those with little or no handgun experience. The maturation and evolution of the National Matches continued as efforts to refine conditions surrounding the country's greatest shooting event kept pace with the ever developing Camp Perry. Structural enhancements impressed those in attendance and the enthusiasm for the matches seemed to spill over in all aspects. ROTC cadets attend Northern Warfare Challenge, place 9th - A team of five Northern Michigan University ROTC cadets placed 9th out of 29 ROTC teams from the region competing in the Northern Warfare Challenge this past weekend. The Northern Warfare Challenge is a competition to test ROTC cadets' ability to march with a rucksack and tactics in arctic warfare. Hosted in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the competition consists of a written test and a 16-mile "ruck march" broken up by different challenges: marksmanship, fire starting, tying knots and first aid, said ROTC cadet Jack Teichman, a sophomore majoring in management. Rifle/Pistol Marksmanship 101 and Small Arms Firing Schools. The CMP will be holding several Rifle/Pistol Marksmanship 101 classes and the National Match Small Arms Firing Schools. The classes, consisting of classroom instruction, range training, practice and firing a M16 match, fired on Kongsberg Electronic targets. Competitors should bring the following if they have them: Mats, scopes, jackets, etc. Rifles and Ammunition will be provided by the CMP. Visit the CMP website for additional information.

The CMP Range Officer Training Course is a program developed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program to provide training and structured on-the-range work experiences to prepare interested persons to serve as qualified Range Officers in CMP sponsored and sanctioned competitions. The CMP is excited to launch a new Postal Competition for Smallbore Shooters. While the world continues to battle the COVID-19 virus, the CMP will continue to conduct competitions for its athletes however it can. This Postal Competition will feature both 3-Position and Prone events fired at a distance of 50ft. Individuals and clubs can register and fire in both events. This competition will be scored using the Orion Scoring System.

The CMP Talladega Spring Classic will be held at the CMP's Talladega Marksmanship Park. The event schedule has been designed to appeal to rifle and pistol enthusiasts alike in order to provide a variety of marksmanship opportunities to competitors from around the country. Each firing point of the 500-acre facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art, KTS electronic target and scoring monitor. Located beside the shooter, on the firing line, each monitor allows the competitor to see their shot value in a matter of seconds.
