IN SUMMARY: CMRAO LICENCE RENEWAL AND CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION IN 2023–24
Each year, CMRAO licensees are required to renew their licence during the month of June. This past year, the CMRAO introduced new Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program requirements for General Licensees, and this was the first cycle that General Licensees were required to complete 10 CPE credits (a combination of virtual and in-person activities that address different aspects of the condominium manager’s role) in order to renew their licence.
Renewal Numbers at a Glance
The CMRAO monitors the number of individuals and businesses that it licenses throughout the year. As all licensees renew their licence during the month of June, peak licensing numbers are seen immediately prior to the licence renewal period. This year, notable growth was observed in the number of individual licensees, with a marginal decrease in the number of provider businesses.
Each year at the end of the renewal period there is a natural reduction in the number of licence holders as some licensees allow their licence to expire for reasons such as retirement or otherwise leaving the industry. While these reductions are expected, the CMRAO continues to observe year-over-year growth at the end of each renewal cycle.

Maintaining Professional Competencies Through Continuing Professional Education
In preparation for the new CPE program, the CMRAO made enhancements to its user portal, enabling licensees to report all activities through their account. There is a list of pre-approved activities on the website that managers can choose from, including webinars, workshops, courses, and conferences. The CMRAO also developed useful tools and resources to help condominium managers select and report their learning activities to fulfill this new annual requirement. In total, 580 sessions were approved for inclusion in the CPE program for 2023–24, including 430 activities that were available free of charge and 382 online sessions.

CULTIVATING EXCELLENCE: CONTINUED INTEREST IN THE CONDOMINIUM MANAGEMENT PROFESSION
The Excellence in Condominium Management course gives its learners a thorough foundation of knowledge and sets the standard of excellence for those entering the condominium management industry. This results in capable and knowledgeable Limited Licensees who are projected to become the future of condominium management in Ontario.
This fiscal year, from April to August, the CMRAO held 13 course sessions and registered over 400 learners in the course. Due to high numbers of Limited Licence applications, an extra session was added to April, May, and June. A great benefit of graduating from the Excellence in Condominium Management course is a one-year free membership to the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) and the Community Associations Institute (CAI), where licensees will find support and additional resources.

ELEVATING DEVICES WEBINAR RESOURCES AVAILABLE
On June 20, the CMRAO held a webinar for condominium managers about elevating devices in condominiums. Guest panelists included experts from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) and an experienced condominium manager from Del Property Management Inc. Webinar participants learned about elevating device licensing, maintenance requirements, inspections and reporting, and important insights on the role of condominium managers as it relates to these safety requirements.
Attendees were asked to complete an online survey after the webinar, and the majority agreed that the webinar was helpful, and that the panelists were very knowledgeable about the subject matter.
A recording of the webinar, the slide presentation, and questions answered during the webinar are available on the CMRAO website.

Where can condominium managers find jobs once they have fulfilled all requirements and are granted a licence?
Although the CMRAO’s role as regulator of Ontario’s condominium management sector does not include providing job opportunities and forums to individuals and businesses, we do support licensees by directing them to industry associations, job websites, and professional networks where they may find such opportunities.
