Faculty Student Recital - Sunday, February 26!

Faculty member, Dr. Holly Roadfeldt performed a beautiful piano recital to benefit Community Music School on Sunday, January 29 in the Rodale Room of Miller Symphony Hall.  

The recital featured highlights from her debut CD “The Preludes Project,” released on Ravello Records in November.  The CD includes works by Chopin and Dr. Roadfeldt's husband, Kirk O'Riordan (listen now or purchase on  Dr. Roadfeldt also performed works by Mozart and Rachmaninoff.   A free-will offering benefited CMS programming.

CMS faculty and students will offer a free recital to the public on Sunday, February 26, beginning at 3:00 pm in the Rodale Room, 3rd Floor, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown, PA. 
The recital will feature our professional faculty members, along with students of all ages, performing a variety of musical genres for your listening pleasure... Faculty members slated to perform include Elaine Martin, flute; Rebekah Ruth, piano; Dr. David Saturen, piano; Nicholas True, trombone.  There will also be an appearance by the CMS Silver Winds Flute Choir!
Doors open at 2:30 pm and a reception will follow. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Covered parking is available in the Transportation Center Parking Deck at 6th & Linden Streets, and a convenient drop-off/pick-up area is located directly in front of Miller Symphony Hall on 6th Street.

Winter Weather

In the event that CMS closes due to inclement weather conditions or other events, there will be no charge for cancelled lessons. For closing information, please check our homepage, our Facebook page, or call 610-435- 7725 to listen to our recorded message. CMS does not always follow the weather-related closures of the area school districts. 

Celebrate 35 years of CMS at this years annual Spring Brunch & Silent Auction to be held Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Lehigh Country Club.  Sponsorships, advertising, and silent auction donations are now being accepted.  To contribute to the event, please contact Lisa Hopstock by email or 610-435-7725.   Deadline for sponsorships and silent auction item donations is February 28, 2017.
Students interested in auditioning for the 2017 Gala Recital and possible scholarship awards should talk to their teacher in February.  Students must have performed in at least one other recital during the current school year to be eligible to audition.  There are only 2 more recitals before the audition deadline - Feb 26 Faculty-Student Recital (deadline Feb 13) and April 3 Student Recital (deadline Mar 19).  For more information and to download the application, click HERE.
Lisa Hopstock has been promoted to Assistant Director of Community Music School, effective February 6, 2017. The new Assistant Director position was recently approved by the CMS Board of Directors. Lisa will continue to work on a part-time basis to oversee marketing, the annual CMS Spring Brunch/Silent Auction fundraiser, and the daily operations of our cloud-based student scheduling and billing system, ASAP.  In her new role, Lisa will also work closely with Director, Jeff Reed as they manage the day-to-day operations of CMS and, in consultation with our Board, develop new programs that address the changing marketplace and reflect our future strategic direction.

A proud graduate of the Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College, Lisa joined CMS as Assistant to the Director in October 2014. She has played an important role in executing and integrating numerous initiatives and improvements, including the new website, refreshed branding and marketing, and the new ASAP scheduling and billing system.

Construction Continues in Downtown Allentown
Thanks to the Morning Call's 2017 Be An Angel campaign, Community Music School received donations of music and instruments valued at $2,050.  The items included four violins, a trombone, a Bundy flute, and a King alto saxophone, along with 25 piano books and assorted violin and choral music.  CMS also received a $360 donation from John J. Zeiner & Sons Inc.  THANK YOU!
