Central Magnet School Newsletter
October 21, 2019
Every year, October brings with it a very important and critical consideration:
fire prevention. Some safety measures to consider:
  • Replace batteries in smoke alarms twice a year. A good reminder is to change the batteries when the time changes in the spring and fall. This includes those alarms wired directly into your ceiling. These should also be changed as the battery will operate the smoke alarm during a power outage.
  • Replace smoke alarms every 8-10 years.
  • Create a fire escape route and run a family fire drill monthly. Remember to have a safe meeting spot away from the house for family members to meet.
  • Have working fire extinguishers in your home as well as smoke & carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Create a to go emergency bag and place it in an easily accessible place so you can grab it in the case of an emergency!

AP TESTING CHANGES
If you are going to take an AP test you must pay for the test before October 31. Please bring registration form and payment to the attendance office. Each test costs $94 and payments can be Cash, Check or Credit card ($96.77 for card). If a student commits and pays for a test but then does not take the test, there is a $40 fee to cancel; therefore, refunds would only be $54 if a student changes their mind or does not test.

The College Board has made several changes in the AP program for the 2019-20 school year. Students will now commit to the test in the fall. Once they commit to taking the test they will have access to materials, question banks, progress checks and teachers will make assignments through their College Board accounts.
