As we all mourn the death of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and pray for the repose of his soul, let us also remember the rich legacy of social teaching Pope Francis leaves behind. His pontificate was especially marked by his dedication to the marginalized and care for creation. Pope Francis’s encyclical, Laudato Si’, focused the Church on care of creation in a new way, urging that care for creation is a core Gospel mandate, linking the destiny of the planet with the dignity of every person and summoning the Church to urgent, hope‑filled action. His apostolic exhortation Laudate Deum, years after Laudato Si’, continued to exhort the Church and the world to care for creation.

"Yet we are called to be instruments of God our Father, so that our planet might be what he desired when he created it and correspond with his plan for peace, beauty and fullness." (Laudato Si,’ 53)

Complexities of US immigration visa system impact the church’s pastoral mission

After this period, they must leave the country for at least one year before reapplying, causing disruptions in their ministry. Miguel Naranjo, director of religious immigration services for the Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc. (CLINIC), expressed concerns about the lack of options for religious workers to remain in the U.S. beyond the R-1 status.
