VICE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear all,

About a week ago, Jackie Herman, our president, asked if I would be willing to write a few paragraphs for the fall newsletter. I thought I would reflect about my involvement with CNETS Canada over the past fifteen years or so and share some of my feelings.

I have had the pleasure of being involved with CNETS Canada since the mid 2000’s, first as a provider when I was in charge of the nuclear medicine program at the London Health Sciences Center in London, Ontario and for the past 12 years as a member of our society. Navigating the complex arcane of the Canadian Health Care systems is an enormous challenge for the health care providers and foremost for the patients. Together, we have fought many battles with the provincial and federal governments to show and demonstrate that our community and patients have not been served appropriately and that they have not received from their health authorities the care that they need and they deserve. The most gratifying part of this journey has been the privilege to work directly with our patient community and to feel that you have made me a better doctor.

While we still have a long road ahead of us to find “the cure” for neuroendocrine tumours our efforts were recently rewarded by the approval of 177-LU dotatate by Health Canada. Finally, patients will now have access to a specific therapy to treat their disease. During the upcoming exciting meeting of our Scientific & Medical Advisory Board and our 2 nd  annual Canadian NET Medical & Scientific Meeting next month in Toronto, we will challenge the NETs Health Care Professionals from across Canada to help securing the appropriate federal funding for this treatment. We will also ask our medical and scientific community to help us understand the current and upcoming NETs therapies and the latest medical and scientific developments.

I wish you all a very enjoyable end of the summer and I am looking forward to sharing with you the information that we will be able to gather during the upcoming fall meetings.

Dr. Jean-Luc Urbain
CNETS Canada - Vice President
