CNN: "THE SS UNITED STATES REMAINS BIG - IT'S THE WORLD THAT GOT SMALL."
Five Decades After Retiring from Service, The Big Ship Still Inspires
This month, CNN ran a special feature on the SS United States, the Conservancy's work and the impact America's Flagship has had on so many. The piece, which has been viewed around the world, is just another example of how the ship continues to be an inspiring symbol of America's spirit and resilience.

As Conservancy President Susan Gibbs said of the Big Ship, "She has endured. Her lines, her form, her strength are still apparent. There's a poignant sense that she's currently waiting to be illuminated again."

Even five decades after her service career came to an end, the Big U is still big news!

MORE FROM THE SS UNITED STATES CONSERVANCY
This beautiful model of the SS United States is now on display at the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) in Washington, DC. The model was a gift from the American Pilots' Association. MARAD Administrator Mark Buzby, a longstanding admirer of the SS United States, reports that the model "is now the first thing I see as I step off the elevator at 0600 every morning - a great way to start the day!" Thank you Administrator Buzby, for your support of the Big U and your service to our nation.

Do you have a special model of America's Flagship? Email photos to the Conservancy and we'll share them with our community.
This week millions around the world will celebrate the arrival of the man in the big red suit. Back in the 50s and 60s, when Santa needed to get somewhere fast, and in style, he knew to take America's Flagship - as portrayed in this special Christmas card created by United States Lines.

Ahoy! We would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
THE BIG U CONTINUES TO INSPIRE...

“You don't know when the next opportunity to build something that physically imposing will come along, if ever. To me, it's like holding onto cathedrals and castles. As we feel more and more alien and alienated in our own country, it's really important to be reminded of what we've accomplished. Cutting ourselves off from that is a denial of history that can only hurt us."

- author-illustrator David Macaulay, speaking about the SS United States, in an interview with CNN Travel
