PROVIDE LEADERSHIP, ASSISTANCE, AND RESOURCES TO ENHANCE DISTRICTS’ DATA ECOSYSTEMS IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND STATE PRIORITIES

On April 28, our team hosted the Spring Regional Data Analysis & Facilitation User Group. The session was designed to help regional school leaders turn complex data into clear, actionable strategies for the coming school year.

The day featured several substantive sessions:

  • Building High-Impact Teams: We kicked off with a focused hour on the essential tools and strategies needed to organize and lead effective data teams within school buildings.
  • Targeted Learning Tracks: Participants chose from specialized breakout sessions that dived deep into specific reporting tools, including Regents Assessment Scoring and Analysis Program (ASAP) reports and Grades 3-8 Common Data Views for ELA, Math, and Science.
  • Driving Decisions with Advanced Analytics: The day concluded with an intensive look at SchoolTool Advanced Analytics Dashboards, demonstrating how leaders can leverage this data to drive informed, district-level decision-making.

We were proud to provide this level of support to our region, and look forward to seeing these strategies put into practice.

We’ll also be inviting educators and administrators to participate in a new Advanced Analytics Focus Group. This initiative will aim to gather feedback on data visualization and dashboard tools to ensure they're meeting the evolving needs of school districts.

Participants will have a direct impact on the development of data tools, as the focus group explores concepts of data accessibility, actionable insights, and user experience. The group will meet to discuss current capabilities and future enhancements, focusing on standardizing data reporting across regions and ensuring data-driven decision-making equity and accessibility.

Keep an eye on your inbox—an email will be sent out shortly containing a Google Form to officially sign up for the group.

PROVIDE LEADERSHIP, ASSISTANCE, AND RESOURCES TO ENHANCE DISTRICTS’ SECURITY POSTURE IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND STATE PRIORITIES

The 12 Regional Information Centers (RICs) across the state are currently observing emerging trends around complex vendor management challenges and security incidents. These cases often involve class-action litigation or third-party platform misconfigurations, highlighting the critical need for vigilant oversight of our educational technology partners. Here are some examples of what we’ve seen:

  • Naviance Class Action Settlement: Following the settlement of Q.J. v. PowerSchool Holdings LLC, the New York State Education Department advises that while the defendants admitted no wrongdoing, districts should independently determine if a data incident report is necessary under 8 NYCRR 121.10(d)-(e) if they suspect student data was breached.
  • McGraw Hill (Salesforce Misconfiguration): McGraw Hill has confirmed that a recent unauthorized access incident was limited to non-sensitive information on a third-party hosted page. No student data, courseware, or internal systems were impacted.
  • Navigate360 P3 Technology / Sandy Hook Promise Foundation: The RIC One ROC is currently investigating a reported incident specifically regarding Navigate 360 tip and safety technologies, including the technology that supports the Sandy Hook Promise solution used by some districts in New York State. Concerns remain regarding inconsistent messaging between vendor alerts and independent sources. We are monitoring the situation alongside the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and cybersecurity authorities.
  • i-Ready: We are monitoring early-stage legal proceedings involving i-Ready; however, there is no significant impact on (or required action for) districts at this time.

PROVIDE LEADERSHIP, ASSISTANCE, AND RESOURCES TO ENHANCE DISTRICTS’ TECHNOLOGY ECOSYSTEMS IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND STATE PRIORITIES

We thank those districts who have submitted their Wide Area Network (WAN) Renewal Collaborative District Survey responses. We will be using this data at our May 6 focus group to guide the Wide Area Network Design.
