CNYWBA News

November 27, 2024

Much of the recent political discourse has concerned women, and women undeniably played a significant role in the presidential election with Vice President Kamala Harris making history as the second woman to lead a major-party presidential ticket, and also the first Black woman and first South Asian. As an organization dedicated to the advancement of women, the Central New York Women’s Bar Association (“CNYWBA”), a chapter of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, celebrates Harris’ historic run.

When women took to the polls this year, they followed in the footsteps of Susan B. Anthony who, on November 5, 1872, cast an illegal ballot to make her voice heard as a full citizen of the United States. “I Voted” stickers adorned Anthony’s headstone in Rochester this month.

The CNYWBA applauds the passage of New York’s Proposition 1, the Equal Rights Amendment, which will enshrine abortion rights and equality for all people in the New York Constitution, and commends the hard work of its members who worked to educate the general public on the importance of this amendment.

Finally, the CNYWBA proudly recognizes its members’ participation in this year’s election, and congratulates those who were elected to public office, including Staci-Dennis Taylor, Esq., Christina M. El Bayadi, Esq., and Hon. Ross P. Andrews. By seeking these elected positions, our members demonstrate their commitment to serving the legal profession, as well as the public and the justice system. We wish them well.
