2020 COA Impact Report now available online
The report recaps our 2020 fiscal year, and it's available in a digital format for the first time ever. The new format lets us paint a more complete picture of our work during a year like we've never experienced before. Not only do we tell the story in numbers, we also share stories that illustrate how we were able to pivot during the pandemic to assist not only our clients, but other vulnerable older adults in our area. Virtual Forum on Aging educates and inspires
On April 20-21, our annual Forum on Aging was presented virtually for the first time. Our 300 participants enjoyed six presentations and online networking and were able to virtually visit our sponsors, while earning up to six CEUs.

Participants also had the chance to watch the video below, about the vital importance of home health aides in keeping older adults and people with disabilities safe and healthy in their homes.

In that spirit, COA also honored three home health aides as our 2021 Home Health Aide Heroes: Deborah Grant (Clinton County Community Action Agency), Gwen Squire (A Miracle Home Care) and James Roe (Hillebrand Home Health). They were selected from among nearly 100 area home health aides who were nominated in 2020 for COA’s Service in Excellence Award. Read more.
COA recognizes C&M BBQ Grille as Community Champion
During the pandemic, Council on Aging has had the opportunity to work with many community partners to meet the needs of older adults. COA recently presented one such partner – C&M BBQ Grille – with its COVID-19 Community Champion Award. C&M is one of our partner restaurants in our Comfort Meal Program. Read more.
2021 Senior Farmers' Market Program now accepting applications
We are now accepting applications for this year's USDA Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program. To qualify for $50 in coupons to spend on fresh local produce at participating farmers' markets and farm stands, older adults in our five-county service area must be 60 or older, with a household income less than 185% of the poverty level. COVID-19 news & information
Get Out the Vax weekends in April and May
A group of southwestern Ohio and northern Kentucky health organizations has joined forces on a Get Out the Vax campaign, committing to vaccinate 80 percent of those eligible (16+) in the region against COVID-19 by July 4. During the 2nd and 4th weekends of April and May (next up is April 24 and 25), a number of locations will offer vaccinations, and there will be free public transportation to appointments through Metro and TANK. Ready to return to normal? Get the facts, then get vaccinated!
As of this week, only 38 percent of Ohioans had received at least one COVID-19 vaccination shot, despite plenty of supply. Even though the science makes it clear that the vaccine is safe and effective, and things will not return to normal until we achieve herd immunity (estimated to be when about 80 percent of us are vaccinated), there is widespread vaccine hesitancy. Much of this is attributable to misinformation. For those who have concerns about the vaccine or who may not be in a rush to get vaccinated, this Ohio Department of Health video may dispel some myths.
UC and Cincinnati Children's seeking COVID-19 survey participants
The University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital are seeking participants for a survey that will assist efforts to provide better information and resources to the general public about COVID-19 vaccines. Survey answers are anonymous, but those who are interested may opt in to participate in an online focus group/interview and will receive a $25 gift card. The survey and more information are here.

Emergency broadband benefit coming from FCC
The Federal Communications Commission has announced the Emergency Broadband Benefit, a program to help households struggling to pay for internet service during the pandemic. It will provide a monthly discount of $50 for eligible single households. Visit the FCC program page for eligibility information and other details.
Two Ohio universities seeking participants for studies related to older adults
  • The REFRESH study team at Case Western Reserve University is conducting a virtual study to evaluate a fatigue management intervention tailored for adults with Multiple Sclerosis. More info.
  • Ohio University's Psychology Department is seeking adults age 50 or older in Ohio to complete an anonymous survey study. Participants will be asked about concerns regarding aging and dementia and about interest in potentially participating in a virtual, educational intervention about healthy aging, dementia and what you can do to prevent dementia. Free Welcome to Medicare webinars available now
The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP), a program of the Ohio Department of Insurance, is currently hosting free “Welcome to Medicare” webinars through June for people nearing the Medicare eligibility age of 65.
