A Message from Rev. Jessie Lowry

Hi everyone,

One of the core elements of our church's mission for the last five years or so has been mental health. We discerned this issue as something we wanted to lift up in worship and continue to educate ourselves on because it is something that affects our entire community without respect to income, race, gender or age. So many of us are affected by mental health concerns for us or someone we love.

As a way of keeping this priority for us top of mind, I saw an opportunity and I want to invite you to join me. A respected community partner in this area is NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and they are hosting a virtual advocacy day with our state legislators next Wednesday 2/7 from 8:00 am -1:30 pm.

More information on the event linked here.

Even if you cannot attend the entire thing, I encourage you to check it out and hear stories of others who really care about this issue---maybe even share your own! Stories are often what move people with power to make change. I hope to see some of you there!

Just like it says on our church hallway way: Take care of yourself! You matter!

And this part of our lives matters to God. Be well, friends!

Blessings and Peace,

Pastor Jessie

Sermon: What Doesn’t Kill Us...? How We Endure Matters

Rev. Jessie Lowry

Worship Service Bulletin

Epiphany 2024 Sermon Series (1/14-2/11): The Book of James: Practical Wisdom for Imperfect Christians

In churches, we seldom hear from the epistle of James, and yet he was a very important person for our journey with God. Tradition identifies him as the half-brother of Jesus, and James writes about the struggles real Christians faced in the first century. These struggles will be familiar to us: making good use of our words; cultivating patience; living a life that has integrity and more. In this new year, let us open our hearts to the ways that God wants to make us more like Jesus.

Opportunities for Fellowship

Christ Our Anchor is excited to announce that this New Year we will bring back our Women’s Retreat. This year it will be in Rehoboth Beach, DE on May 3-5, 2024. The retreat will be 3 days and 2 nights. At this moment we have single rooms for 13 women, or we have enough beds for 30 women sharing. Our fee will be $50, and this includes boarding, Breakfast and Lesson. All the women joining us will be assigned a meal to put together with other women. Friday, May 3rd we will meet and greet upon arrival between 12 noon and 5 pm. And Saturday will be packed full of fun, fellowship, and worship. Sunday, we will have our own service and after, if all the women want, we can have lunch at a restaurant nearby or split up to enjoy the town around the area. For details on this exciting fellowship event, please contact Anna Werntz at (443)995-1580. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the Narthex and a sign up will be sent out soon.

I hope to see you all there!

We have many opportunities for virtual fellowship each week.
