Educate and Elevate Success Stories
After dropping out of high school, Yolanda worked nights for 15 years as a housekeeper. She tried traditional diploma prep programs but couldn’t stick with them. Then, she found the St. Louis Community College FastTrack program. This accelerated path offered flexible hours, one-on-one tutoring, and a tailored curriculum. Yolanda signed on, and 10 weeks later she passed the HiSET exam. With her HiSET Yolanda has a new job at a local hospital and is currently taking classes at St. Louis Community College to enhance her skills in pharmacy technology. She has better working hours, increased pay, and access to higher education.
Public Policy Update (01/02/20)
As you may recall, President Trump signed the final fiscal year (FY) 2020 appropriations deal into law on Friday, December 20, which included a $15 million increase for Adult Education programs . We thank you again for all of your efforts in securing this funding increase! To keep the momentum going, our work on FY2021 funding will begin quickly – so ensure that you and your team are ready for action.

Looking ahead, the State of the Union is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4. We will be listening for key themes related to adult education. Following the State of the Union, the President’s 2021 Budget Request is likely to be released sometime in February. We will analyze the President’s Budget Request and respond appropriately. After the release of the Budget Request, expect to begin our regular 2021 appropriations work with Congress.
