Educate and Elevate Success Stories
In 2016, Kenneth got into some trouble and it sent him to prison. While he was there, he became determined to earn his high school equivalency diploma and do something meaningful with his life. Kenneth faithfully studied for his test at the prison and then at a halfway house. Within just a few months, he earned his diploma. He began college, studying automotive technology, just three days after his release. He has completed one year of college and has a paid internship at an automotive dealership. Kenneth hopes to have his own automotive business someday.
Survey From UpSkill America
2019 has been a tremendous year for upskilling. Businesses big and small have announced new or expanded programs that will help workers improve their skills, do better work, and have new opportunities for success.

To share the great work that companies are doing to upskill their workers, UpSkill America is surveying businesses to learn more about the new programs that were created this year.

If you have started, expanded, or significantly changed an upskilling program in 2019, please fill out our survey so we can help share your work. We plan to publish the results, along with our own research, at the end of the year to shine a light on the work that has been done.
The survey will only take a few minutes and sharing your work will help advance upskilling as a valuable business practice that helps attract talent and boost employees. Please complete the survey by November 25, so we can share your successes this year .

Public Policy Update (11/22/19)
Public Policy Word Cloud on White Background
The House and Senate passed another continuing resolution that will largely level-fund the government through December 20. The President signed the continuing resolution into law last night. While we have temporarily avoided a government shutdown, House and Senate appropriators have still not agreed upon 302(b) funding levels, which determine the overall funding levels for each of the 12 appropriations bills, including Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (LHHS) – the primary funding bill for adult education programs. Congress is unlikely to finish negotiating their spending bills before December 20, which means that they will need to pass yet another continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown in December.
