COABE Members Created Legislative Impact During Adult Ed and Family Literacy Week
|
|
|
More than 30 states were represented during our sixth Capitol Hill Day that took place on September 24th resulting in 72 visits with legislators and legislative staff. While we were on the Hill, over
2,000
connections from members were made with legislators via email, thus greatly increasing our impact! This brings our legislative connections from the field to over 118,000 since we began the Educate and Elevate public awareness campaign in partnership with NASDAE.
As well, the Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos conducted a first ever site visit of an adult ed program in Montgomery County. Thank you to all who supported this important work during national Adult Ed and Family Literacy Week!

The House and Senate recently passed a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown and allow the two bodies more time to agree on appropriations bills. Last Friday evening, President Trump signed the continuing resolution which will keep the government open and level-fund all discretionary government programs until November 21. Meanwhile, the House and Senate continue to work together to agree on funding levels for a final fiscal year 2020 spending bill.
Congress has been on recess this past week and will be on recess next week as well.
Recess is a great time to meet with your Members of Congress in the home district.
If you visit with your legislator or invite them to visit your program, please let us know how the visit goes. Note: Congress will return to session in Washington, DC on October 15.
