Teamwork: A Core Skill for Career Success

Welcome back to campus! As we kick off a new semester in the College of Business, it’s a great time to reflect on one of the skills employers consistently value and one that JMU students are known for delivering exceptionally well: teamwork.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Teamwork is a core career readiness competency. Employers are not just seeking individual contributors; they want graduates who can collaborate, communicate, problem-solve, and deliver results as part of a team.

Teamwork goes beyond group assignments. It means showing up prepared, communicating professionally, and supporting your teammates. As you move through the semester, be intentional about how you contribute to team success, both inside and outside the classroom.
