NACE Career Readiness Competency: Equity & Inclusion
As we continue to focus on the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Equity & Inclusion this month, it’s important to recognize that this skill centers on working effectively with individuals from different backgrounds, identities, and perspectives while contributing to environments where everyone feels valued and respected.
Employers seek inclusive mindsets and value students who practice active listening, communicate with cultural awareness, and consider broader business impacts, preparing them to lead and collaborate in diverse workplaces. To build career readiness in this area, students can develop inclusive leadership habits in everyday professional settings by:
-
Mentoring or tutoring peers
-
Seeking feedback from individuals with different viewpoints
-
Participating in activities that explore ethics or social impact in business
-
Staying informed on workplace equity trends affecting their industries
Practicing inclusive communication in presentations, case competitions, and internships further strengthens this competency. Continue opening doors and building workplaces where everyone feels included and valued.
