Spotlight on NACE Career-Ready Skills: Critical Thinking

The National Association of Colleges and Employers recognizes critical thinking as one of the core competencies needed for career readiness, and it is the skill we are spotlighting this month. Here are three steps you can take as a Duke to get career-ready:

Participate in Study Abroad Programs: Exposure to different cultures and educational systems can broaden your perspective and enhance your critical thinking abilities. Check out the semester and short-term opportunities offered through JMU.

Engage in Problem-Solving Activities: Participate in case competitions, hackathons, or join clubs focusing on solving real-world problems. These activities will challenge you to think critically and develop innovative solutions.

Utilize Available Resources: Make the most of free programming offered through JMU and platforms like Handshake to find webinars, workshops, and other resources that can help you prepare for your career search.

By actively engaging in these activities, you will enhance your critical thinking skills and prepare yourself for a successful career. Embrace these opportunities to challenge yourself, broaden your horizons, and continuously improve. Remember, critical thinking is a journey, and every step you take brings you closer to being career-ready.
