NACE Career Readiness Competency: Leadership

Lead at Any Level: Skills to Boost Your Career Readiness

Leadership isn’t about having a title, it is about inspiring others, taking initiative, and helping teams reach shared goals. That is why the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) identifies leadership as a key career-readiness skill. Leadership can happen at any level; it is a mindset developed through consistent practice.

Three Actions to Level Up Your Career Skills:

  1. Join a student organization to strengthen collaboration, communication, and responsibility. Learn more about student organizations within the College of Business and HART School on Monday, January 26 from 12:00-1:30PM in the Hartman Hall lobby.
  2. Take initiative in class projects or jobs by stepping into planning, problem-solving, or decision making roles.
  3. Seek internships or service opportunities to gain hands-on team, manage tasks, and gain real-world experience. Check out local and Alternative Break opportunities.

Growing your leadership skills now will help you stand out and confidently enter the professional world.

Deadline Dash

Senior Exit Survey

December 12 | Survey Deadline

Are you graduating this December? If so, please be sure to check your Dukes email and take the Senior Exit Survey from David Peterson if you have not already. Once the survey is completed, you can pick up a graduation medallion from the EY Suite in Hartman Hall anytime between the hours of 8 and 5pm.

Set Your Email Away Messages

Don't forget to turn on your email automatic replies for winter break. An away message (automatic reply) lets anyone trying to reach you know when you’ll be unavailable and why you may not respond right away. It’s a simple professional courtesy—and a workplace best practice—so it’s a great habit to start building now.
