Mastering the NACE Career Readiness Competency: Technology
In today’s digital-first world, technology skills are more essential than ever. Whether you’re applying for internships, preparing for full-time roles, or launching your own venture, being proficient with technology can set you apart from the competition. That’s why the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) identifies Technology as a key Career Readiness Competency.
Employers seek candidates who can understand and leverage technology ethically to enhance efficiencies, complete tasks, and accomplish goals. Here are two ways to strengthen your technology competency:
-
Take Online Courses – Take advantage of your free access to LinkedIn Learning to build valuable digital skills.
-
Use Workplace Technologies – Start using the Microsoft Office Suite, which is available for free to JMU students.
When applying for jobs or internships, highlight your tech competencies on your resume and in interviews.
By proactively developing your technology skills, you’ll be better prepared for the workforce and more confident in navigating an increasingly digital world.
Before heading out for Spring Break, be sure to set an automatic reply to your email. This lets potential employers and contacts know you’re away and when they can expect a response.
