C-SPAN's StudentCam (Deadline: Jan. 20)
This is an annual national video documentary competition that encourages students in grades 6-12 to think seriously about issues that affect communities and the nation. With cash prizes totaling $100,000 each year, C-SPAN awards prizes to the top 150 student documentaries. If you are a teacher and listed as an adviser on one of the top 50 winning films, you will also receive a cash award. Since 2004, C-SPAN has awarded over $1.2 million dollars in cash prizes to students and teachers. Click here to learn more.

ARTS FOR LIFE! 2021-2022 Scholarship Application (Deadline: Feb. 4)
Arts for Life! annually awards a one-time $1,000 scholarship to 25 graduating high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in creative writing, dance, drama, music or the visual arts. High school students who are graduating from a public, private, or virtual school or a home education program in Florida in the spring of 2022 are encouraged to apply. New State Teaching Artist Directory Seeking Registrants
The Florida Alliance for Arts Education in partnership with the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs, made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, invite community and school teaching artists to register in the newly launched State Teaching Artist Directory. There is no fee to register. When there are enough registrations, the directory search engine will be launched and sent to schools and community organizations who would like to employ the services of teaching artists. Professional Development & Artistic Planning Grants (Deadline: Rolling)
Grants are available for organizations to support the professional development needs of Southern presenters, programmers, or curators, strengthen program design, and increase organizational capacity. This funding can support staff's travel expenses to conferences, festivals, exhibitions, workshops, and other professional development opportunities, or artists' travel expenses for onsite planning meetings with presenting organizations. 2022 FMEA Professional Development Conference & All-State Concerts
(January 12-15 at the Tampa Convention Center)
The FMEA Professional Development Conference is one of the largest music education professional development events in the United States. In addition to approximately 250 clinic sessions and concerts, it is host to 23 All-State Ensembles featuring Florida's top Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Guitar, Orff, and Popular Music students conducted by world-class conductors and teachers. It is attended by more than 10,000 people, including secondary music directors, elementary music teachers, music supervisors, college students, college music teachers, school administrators, K-12 students performing in the All-State ensembles, students and professional musicians performing with invited performing ensembles, exhibitors, and parents and family members of performing students. OI-NEH Vast Early America Teacher Institute (March 1)
The 2022 workshop “Teaching the History and Culture of Vast Early America”—or Vast Early America Teacher Institute (VEATI)—will introduce 25 teachers to this capacious view of early America via deep dives into case studies and through lectures by the resident faculty and visiting scholars. To provide participants with a range of subjects covering Native American, African American, and European settler histories as well as the connections among them, the case studies of early American Texas, California, Arkansas, the Caribbean, Virginia, and the American and Haitian revolutions will be developed both in lectures and through secondary and primary sources readings. While in residence in Williamsburg, Virginia, VEATI participants will complete a research project on the early America of teachers’ own home communities for use in their classrooms. Call for Museum Education Assistant

Gadsden Arts seeks a versatile, creative thinker to develop and facilitate art activities in the ArtZone (the museum’s drop-in art studio). The Museum Education Assistant helps create art projects inspired by museum exhibitions, books in the children’s art library, or other general art projects for all ages, but particularly ages 5-13. In the ArtZone, the Museum Assistant also prepares materials, helps children and their families complete art projects, and cleans and sanitizes furnishings and equipment. Call for Summer Camp Instructors (Deadline: May 30)
LeMoyne Arts is looking to add unique and excited art teachers to our team for our annual LeMoyne Arts Summer Camp for both youths (ages 6-12) and teens (13-17).
Applicants must be good with children, responsible, and proficient in artmaking (including drawing, painting, multimedia, and ceramics). Duties include composing lesson plans, demonstrating techniques, communicating about the elements of art, engaging and instructing students in art-making, creating a positive environment, and maintaining a shared studio space.

Celebration of the Hands (Deadline Jan. 14)
Each year, Children’s Week Florida™ partners and volunteers come together to hang a larger than life visual inside the Capitol Rotunda. The display is constructed from thousands of pieces of vibrant and beautiful children’s hand artwork from all across the state. This incredible piece of art serves as a daily reminder to legislators, advocates, and visitors that the future of our children rests in their hands. You can decorate hands with colorful artwork, words, stories, and/or pictures - there is no limit to your creativity. Hand artwork should be strung together prior to mailing (please do not send individual hands). Secure artwork vertically onto string or ribbon in lengths of 8 to 10 feet to create the "hanging" effect. You may also use the hands to create small posters for display. These are generally no larger than 11" x 17".

39th Annual Children's Day (Jan. 22)
The Museum of Florida History will have interactive booths, games, crafts, musical performances, storytelling, and more. BJ’s Party House will be offering balloon art and portrait sketches, and there will be free bike helmets provided by the Pilot Club of Tallahassee. Admission, parking, and activities are free!. The Bardlings Spring 2022 Auditions
(Jan. 22 and 23)
The Bardlings program is open to middle and high school students in the Tallahassee area. This spring semester includes a production of Romeo and Juliet to be performed at the 2022 Southern Shakespeare Festival this May, community theatre and arts organization-based field trips, workshops, and additional theatre-related events. Sonnet Man's 2022 Residency with Southern Shakespeare Company (Jan. 24-28)
Devon Glover aka the Sonnet Man fuses Shakespeare’s Sonnet’s with Hip-Hop to make them fun and more relatable to your students. Sonnet Man will join Southern Shakespeare Company for his 2022 Residency and he will be available for virtual or in-person Sonnet Writing Workshops in classrooms, theatres, or study groups throughout the area. The Chain of Parks Art Festival welcomes performers to apply to perform on a volunteer basis. Performance times are available throughout the weekend of April 23 & 24, 2022 from 10AM – 5PM on Saturday and 10AM-4PM on Sunday. There are two locations for entertainment. Pop-up Studios are hosted by organizations that provide a children’s art activity for both days of the event for up to 500 kids during the weekend. You do not pay to participate so that you can provide staffing and supplies for children’s activities. We provide a 10 x 10 white tent in the park and tables and chairs. The Festival team will decorate the activity area, and you will bring whatever is needed to set up art activities for kids. You are allowed to promote your organization through interactions with the kids and their families. Click here for more info.

COCA's Winter Festival Youth Art Exhibition 2021 (on view through Feb. 7)
This annual exhibit showcases youthful talent and imagination through nearly 100 pieces of student artwork. More than 40 elementary, middle and high school art teachers submitted work on behalf of their students for the exhibition. The entries represent more than 30 different area public, private and charter schools. The dedication and professionalism of our area art teachers is evident in the quality of the student artwork on display and the exhibition is stunning. The works can be seen in person at the City Hall Gallery (open M-F from 8-5) or virtually in COCA’s Online Gallery. Click here for more.

Southern Shakespeare Company's 2022 Sonnet Contest (Deadline: Feb. 11)
Southern Shakespeare Company’s 2022 Sonnet Contest will begin accepting submissions Dec. 6, 2021. With three categories for submissions – middle school, high school, and adult – and a fresh pot of prizes valued at over $1,000, the 2022 Sonnet Contest is expected to receive more submissions and from further away than ever before! In coordination with the 2022 Sonnet Contest, Devon Glover aka Sonnet Man assumes his residency with the Southern Shakespeare Company Jan. 24-28 and will be available for sonnet writing workshops throughout the week.

Two Regimes Film
“Two Regimes - A Mother’s Memoir of
the Holodomor and the Holocaust” will
be available ONLY to educational institutions. There is no charge for this film. It is 33 minutes long and appropriate for 5th grade to adults. This is a story of the will and survival of everyday people faced with the realities of war. More details can be found here

Volunteer with Classroom Connection
This partnership between the Tallahassee Chamber, Leon County Schools, and World Class Schools provides a strong foundation for our kindergarteners. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many parents opted to “redshirt” their children from entering school last fall and will enroll them for kindergarten in the 2021-2022 school year. Leon County Schools is preparing to welcome more than 3,000 kindergarteners this August, which is about 400+ more than a regular school year. With more than 170 classrooms up for adoption, we are asking our members to join us in supporting our children in their most critical year of development. This is not a monetary ask. BuddyKnit Peer Mentoring
BuddyKnit, a nonprofit organization started by Rickards junior Sruthi Sentil, is offering peer mentoring services to students in the Big Bend area! Our focus is to serve mentees in the foster care system, though we accept students from all backgrounds. We are recruiting both mentees (2nd to 8th grade), and mentors (6th to 12th grade). Mentors can act either as educational tutors or simply as a companion to their mentee.
