At a glance: What's happening at the college
UNMC Impact in Education Awards on March 3

The College of Dentistry will be recognized at the UNMC Impact in Education Awards on Wednesday, March 3 at 5 p.m. via Facebook Live and Youtube. The presentation will include the following College of Dentistry Points of Pride:

  • Unique among colleges during the pandemic: All 2020 dental and dental hygiene graduates finished their clinical educational requirements on time and secured employment or started advanced education programs, and 100% of students were onsite at the beginning of the fall semester with first-year students having a 100% in-person, hands-on educational experience.

  • Reenvisioned clinical education: The College of Dentistry was the first dental school in the nation to purchase mobile dental handpieces that students used at home during the first months of the pandemic to continue building their clinical skills and the college’s clinical environment and operations were transformed so residents and students could resume providing routine patient care in summer 2020.

  • Growth in many areas: Two educational programs increased enrollment, students started local chapters of the Student National Dental Association, American Association of Public Health Dentistry and UNMC Student Alliance for People of All Abilities, and the dental program received almost 100 more applications than last year.
Spreading Kindness! SAPA's Annual Flower Sale

SAPA held its annual flower sale in February to raise funding to support their efforts to increase health care accessibility for different patient populations who are traditionally marginalized in medicine.

Many buyers ordered flowers which they then donated to families served by SAPA's partner organizations, including UNMC's Munroe-Meyer Institute. Funding from the annual flower sale will help support future SAPA workshops, as well as SAPA's work with HETRA, a nonprofit that does equine therapy with children with autism, and the group's extensive partnerships with MMI.
