SBCOG Considered for ZEV Regional Readiness and Implementation Grant
In May, the California Energy Commission (CEC) will consider SBCOG's proposal to develop a San Bernardino Countywide Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Regional Readiness and Implementation Plan that was submitted in response to the CEC's grant solicitation for ZEV Readiness under the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program. If awarded, the San Bernardino Regional ZEV Regional Readiness Plan will create a roadmap identifying "shovel-ready" ZEV charging infrastructure opportunities sufficient to support the anticipated number of ZEV's adopted by 2020 and 2025 based on goals identified in the 2014 California Statewide Plug-In Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Assessment. The roadmap created through development of this Plan will assist SBCOG and cities with applying for other grant opportunities that become available for purchase and installation of ZEV infrastructure.

Zero Emission Battery Trucks at Freight Facilities
The purpose of this project is to demonstrate zero-emission battery electric technologies to replace the two most common trucks at freight support facilities across the United States: Class 8 Yard Trucks and Class 5 Service Trucks. The battery technologies for both of the truck types are in the pre-commercialized stage. However, the technology partner for the proposed project, BYD, is currently developing prototypes and manufacturing capabilities to support the expected rapid growth of these product lines. Both truck types will be powered entirely by BYD's electric propulsion systems, including iron phosphate batteries, inverters, and traction motors.
BNSF Railway, the largest intermodal rail operator in the world, is the principal technology demonstrator and will be demonstrating ten (10) yard trucks at each of their facilities in San Bernardino and Los Angeles for a total of twenty (20) yard trucks. All trucks are scheduled to be delivered by end of June 2017 for both locations. Daylight Transport, a leading national LTL (Less than truckload) shipping provider, will be demonstrating an additional three (3) yard trucks at a new facility in Fontana that will be supported with battery storage and solar. Those trucks were delivered in March 2017 and are now in full operation.
All three of these locations will also be demonstrating a total of four medium duty service trucks, which are used to provide maintenance and service support for yard tractors, rubber tire gantry cranes, and forklifts, and have the ability to serve in other capacities and environments, which enhances future commercialization prospects. For additional information, visit SBCTA Newsroom.

LED Holiday Lights and EE Starter Kits Reduced Energy During the 2016 Holiday Season
For the second consecutive holiday season, residents in San Bernardino County enjoyed reduced utility bills and energy savings thanks to five Holiday Light Exchange and FREE Energy Efficiency (EE) Starter Kit events hosted by SBCOG, SCE and SoCalGas as part of the SBREP. Events took place this past December in the cities of Chino Hills, Fontana, Montclair, Rancho Cucamonga and Rialto where SCE customers exchanged 450 inefficient holiday light strands for energy efficient LED holiday light strands. As an added feature to this year's events, 160 SoCalGas customers also received a free EE Starter Kit containing a low-flow showerhead and three faucet aerators.

Twentynine Palms Advances to Silver for SCE's Energy Efficiency Leadership Model
The San Bernardino Regional Energy Partnership (SBREP) is celebrating the partnerships of its first two member cities, the City of Highland and City of Twentynine Palms, advancement to the Silver Tier as part of Southern California Edison's (SCE) Energy Leadership Partnership (ELP) model. SCE's ELP model is a four level tiered approach in which all participating cities start at the Valued tier and have an opportunity to advance to Silver, Gold and Platinum. Highland and Twentynine Palms successfully accomplished a combination of kWh savings, Demand Response and community outreach requirements to advance to Silver, and now get the benefit an additional $.06/kWh saved when implementing future energy efficiency projects. The overall goal of the SBREP, which is a collaboration between SBCOG, SCE and SoCalGas, is to support cities with implementing energy efficiency upgrades within their facilities by offering free resources and technical assistance, energy efficiency programs and encouraging them to lead by example. In addition to supporting municipalities, the SBREP provides education and support to residents within the community.
