Member College New Leadership
Dr. Everette Freeman, the long-time president of the Community College of Denver and COMBASE Board member and Secretary/Treasurer retired at the end of 2020. The college’s new president, Dr. Marielena DeSanctis, (Meet Dr. DeSanctis) assumed her position January 15, 2021.

Dr. Anthony Munroe was named the new president of the Borough of Manhattan Community College
September 1, 2020 (Meet Dr. Munroe). Dr. Munroe takes over from Dr. Karrin Wilks who served as the interim president.

Member College New Leadership
The COMBASE Board of Directors consists of four officer positions (President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Immediate Past President), seven directors at large, and a director-historian. Retirements and changes in leadership at member colleges oftentimes impact the COMBASE board membership. Recent changes include the officer position of Secretary/Treasurer and two of the Director at-Large positions.

The retirement of Dr. Everette Freeman, president of the Community College of Denver, created a vacancy on the COMBASE Board of Directors for the officer position of Secretary/Treasurer. A board nominating committee approached Dr. Shanna Jackson, President, Nashville State Community College (Meet Dr. Jackson) to assume the post and she agreed to be considered. The COMBASE Board of Directors voted unanimously to name Dr. Jackson to the position.

Dr. Ricky Shabazz, President of the San Diego City College (CA) has been named to the COMBASE Board as a Director at-Large.

Dr. Anthony Munroe, President of the Borough of Manhattan Community College (NY) has been named to the COMBASE Board as a Director at-Large.

CISCO Partnership Expanding
Recalling that the CISCO Networking Academy sponsored the fall 2020 Leaders Series of Webex presentations, COMBASE is in discussions with CISCO to produce additional Webex presentations. The presentations will consider leadership initiatives for the post-pandemic period of strategic and tactical operational adjustments. With enrollment, budgetary, and technology challenges, the Webex’ will allow the opportunity for college leaders to share their initiatives.

COMBASE is also in the process of acceptance as a CISCO Networking Academy to bring further resources to its member colleges, most of which are also CISCO Networking Academies. Further information will be shared in the next 60 days.
