Community Call to Action!
Join us in support of workers unfairly terminated for standing up for themselves in the face of employer harassment!
Tomorrow (Monday) evening, we will be holding a candle light vigil to urge Domino's Pizza on 181st Street to rehire their workers and end harassment in the workplace.
On Saturday, 24 pizza delivery men were unjustly fired after several complained to their supervisor that he was harassing them by forcing them to be sub-minimum wages due to their participation in a nationwide worker's action on Thursday, December 5th. Delivery drivers are supposed to spend only 20% of their time in the store so that they can earn tips to augment their base pay of just under six dollars. When they were told they must spend the majority of their shift in the store rather than making deliveries, they were essentially told that they would not be earning the minimum wage required by NY State law.
This afternoon we joined with many in the community to demand an end to worker harassment and let this Domino's know that we will not tolerate worker harassment in Washington Heights. The manager refused to show up at his scheduled time due to our presence and the delivery men, still wanting to return to their jobs, are not earning any money to support their families.
Tomorrow we will join them in support of their struggle at 6:00 PM in front of the store front located on 181st Street storefront between Fort Washington and Broadway.
Please join us in saying that all deserve a living wage in our community and no one deserves to be terminated for standing up for their rights. Your presence will be greatly appreciated. We are a united community and cannot allow our residents to be treated so unjustly.
Thank you for your consideration!
