SELF CARE AWARENESS MONTH!

Now more than ever, we need to take care of ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally. The Regional Office of Education #17 has created an interactive resource map that includes videos and tips to help parents and educators with self care. Be sure to check out the additional resources that include mental health checklists and social emotional learning resources for parents.
MFG DAY
SMART MANUFACTURING COMIC BOOK

October is Manufacturing Month and the first Friday of the month, October 2, is MFG Day, organized nationally by The Manufacturing Institute.

A great way to inspire young people is by demonstrating that manufacturing is a smart connected world that is filled with technology, advanced skills, and creativity. That is why PTC created a smart comic book to inspire young people to engage in the manufacturing sector. Through an interactive app using augmented reality, you can explore manufacturing just in time to celebrate Manufacturing Day October 2nd!

RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT:

Heartland Community College's EWS Workshops provide soft-skills training for workers, promoting critical workplace behaviors necessary for success. Some of the workshops offered this fall include topics like: Understanding Customer Service Essentials, Communicating Effectively, and Navigating Challenges and Stressors. All workshops this semester will be hosted via Zoom.

EWS's next workshop starts on September 17th.

  • Check out local job opportunities with the McLean County Chamber of Commerce Community Job Board.
  • More than 50 Companies around the country have joined Red Wing Shoe Company on their #LaborDayOn initiative, promoting job openings to aid the 25 million Americans who are unemployed. The company provides downloadable advertising resources to any business willing to join their initiative. Read the full article here. 

  • The US Bureau of Labor Statistics published an article informing the pros and cons of secondary students taking a gap year post-graduation. The article provides resume-building options for students who opt for a gap year including engaging in national service, like AmeriCorps or gain hands-on professional experience. Read More Here.
  • An article published by the NY Times provides tips for addressing the mental health of teens going back to school this fall. Tips include information on how to maintain a socially-distanced social life, maintaining a reliable routine, and developing a supportive space at home. Read more here.

  • FEMA has announced a lost-wages grant for Illinois on September 1st, 2020. Grant funding will provide Illinois residents up to $300 per week in additional unemployment compensation on top of regular unemployment benefits. Funding has been made available through FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund.
  • Keep up to date on COVID-19 in McLean County through the BN Prepared website. The website includes information for employment, community and employer resources.
