2019 Half-Day Retreat Series
The purpose of these half-day retreats is to deepen our awareness of God's transforming presence in our lives.

The Jesus Prayer
 Prayer of the Heart
Saturday August 17 th , 2019

The August 17th retreat will explore the spiritual practices of early Christianity, the Desert Fathers and the Christian Saints of the East. Specifically, we will look into the origins of contemplative and meditative prayer and its evolution in Eastern Christianity. We will explore the practical use of the "Jesus Prayer" and how it, along with other practices and God's grace, can lead to the Prayer of the Heart.

The morning will include three 30 minute periods of centering prayer and an interactive discussion.

Centering Prayer is a  receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.

This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ.
