2020 Half-Day Retreat Series
The purpose of these half-day retreats is to deepen our awareness of God's transforming presence in our lives.
Part 2
The Contemplative Experience of Jesus
Part 2 -- The Parables
Saturday March 21, 2020
"What is the essence of the message that the Christian contemplative tradition seeks to impart? It is the experience Jesus had of the Father (Ultimate Reality) as Abba." – Father Thomas Keating

In this second installment of a 3-part series, we will continue to reflect on the Gospel as sharing in Jesus’ experience of God and what that means for contemplative living today. Aware of the oppressive realities of the Roman Empire and the egoic use of religion, we will explore the spiritual awakening stories known as 'the parables'.

The morning will include three 30 minute periods of centering prayer and an interactive discussion.

Contemplative Outreach of Maryland and Washington (COMW)
Centering Prayer  is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.

This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ.
