The Contemplative Experience of Jesus
Part 3:
Jesus’ Hard Sayings
"Contemplative prayer…transmits Christ’s experience of God as
Abba" –
Father Thomas Keating
In third and last second installment of a 3-part series, we will continue to reflect on the Gospel as sharing in Jesus’ experience of God and what that means for contemplative living today. Keeping an eye on the imperial ego manifested in the Roman Empire and in religion, we will explore a series of teachings from Jesus called “the hard sayings.” These are sayings that we often do not hear about in sermons or from people in positions of power because they counsel a way of nothingness, powerlessness and accepting God in weakness through surrender.
The morning will include three 30 minute periods of centering prayer and an interactive discussion.
