CONEG Elects Governors Raimondo and Scott to Lead in 2017

CONEG Governors held their annual winter meeting on February 26 in Washington, D.C. to elect leadership and convene a roundtable discussion on energy, the opioids crisis, and infrastructure.
Through unanimous vote, the Governors elected Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo as Chair and Vermont Governor Phil Scott as Vice-chair for 2017As part of
CONEG’s ongoing efforts to promote regional energy strategies, the Governors had a wide-ranging discussion regarding affordability, energy infrastructure, and resiliency. The Governors also discussed the importance of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) in both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reinvesting in state economies.
The Governors emphasized the states’ ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and furthering interstate strategies to limit prescriptions, share data, and deter drug trafficking across borders. During their discussions on infrastructure, the Governors highlighted the importance of connecting the region through rail transportation investments, the deployment of electric vehicles, and upgrades along the coastline and ports of the Northeast.
