Shemini Atzeret Yizkor
Tuesday, October 14, 9:30am
For centuries Jews have observed the tradition of a Yizkor prayer service, a time to remember loved ones dear to our hearts, on the holidays of Yom Kippur, and during the three festival holidays, Sukkot (rather, at its conclusion, Shemini Atzeret), Passover and Shavu’ot.
If a loved one has passed away recently, or long ago, this is a meaningful time for prayer, song and meditation, as “an hour of memory.” The words and melodies of the Jewish tradition make the Yizkor service a time to offer gratitude for life’s blessings, and to spend time reflecting on the memory of those whom you love.

Two Jews, Three Opinions: A Facilitated Dialogue for the Temple Sinai Community about Our Diverse Opinions on Israel, Zionism, and the War
Sunday, October 26 1:00-3:00 pm, Ehrenfried Hall
(Arrive early if you want to schmooze. We will start on time.)
“Two Jews, three opinions,” is an old and familiar adage. But discussing our differing opinions can be fraught when it comes to Israel, Zionism, and the war in Gaza after the terrible attacks of October 7, 2023. Our goal is to strengthen the bonds within our community by engaging our members in respectful dialogue that supports understanding and connection, even when we may disagree.
In the spirit of Temple Sinai’s commitment to inclusivity, connection and mutual care, members of the Israel Education Committee and the Israel/Palestine Committee are organizing facilitated small-group dialogues in which congregants can discuss the Israel, Zionism, the war in Gaza and its impact on Judaism and the Jewish Community with open hearts and minds in order to better understand each other’s positions. This will not be a debate. Rather, it is carefully structured to help us hear each other out with respectful curiosity and knit us closer together as a community, with appreciation for our diversity of opinion. This program is for Temple Sinai community members only. Please register here for this in-person dialogue event (registration requested, not required).

We’re a friendly mix of beginners and experienced singers united by the joy of choral singing. We periodically perform at services and other events. For more info, or to join, contact Laurie Lasky.
