A message from Pastor Jess:

When Pastor Charlie came up with the idea for the Gospel on the Radio series, I immediately called dibs on Metallica. "That is… surprising." I guess I don’t look like the Metallica type? (haha)

What Charlie didn't know is that I've been looking for a good excuse to highlight Metallica in worship for a good long while, ever since I heard their drummer Lars Ulrich sent their publicist to a church that was featuring the band (you can read the whole story in The Day Metallica Came to Church by John Van Sloten - you'll get a little summary on Sunday). Our playlist series gives me the perfect opportunity for that bucket list sermon.

This also gives me an opportunity to say thank you for calling me as one of your associate pastors. Tom and I have been so warmly welcomed over the last (almost) six months, and I love serving here at Covenant. Many of you have mentioned you aren’t really into the bands we’ve chosen, but your flexibility and encouragement as well as your willingness to try something new is remarkable in a congregation – what a joy and what a gift in these changing times where creatively adapting and trying new ideas is key to being the church God is calling us to be. Thanks be to God!

Boys & Girls Club holds their annual Move ‘N’ Groove fundraiser on July 20 and Covenant is participating! The Presbywheelians is the team from Covenant that bikes for this fundraiser for BGCDC. You can now sign up to join the team or donate to support the team! Registration is $65. So far, the Presbywheelians have raised $3,291.72 of their $7,500 goal. Help them reach their goal!

We are looking for a few more folks interested in travelling to Guatemala (November 9-16), where Covenant has a longtime connection with two Presbyterian communities in Coyolate and Santo Domingo. Racists Anonymous Fellowship is holding a book study (Zoom) on Tracey Michae’l Lewis-Giggetts’ book Then They came for Mine. This book is a moving effort by the author to be a truth-teller, including the good, the ugly, the sad and the joyful. Join us for a Mallards baseball game! For double the fun, the Madison Night Mares softball team is playing a game before the Mallards that afternoon and your ticket gets you into both events. Our July Spiritual Stroll will be at Olbrich Botanical Gardens, and there will be a guided tour! Sign up at the Events/Announcements bulletin board outside the Lounge. We’re asking for $10 for the tour cash/check which can be made out to Covenant Presbyterian Church. These strolls are part of CONNECT, a program of deacon-sponsored events with the intention of fostering connection between Covenant and the community.
