If you missed church last Sunday, you should definitely take some time to watch our worship video. Rev. Everett Mitchell gave an inspiring and high-energy sermon about the importance of communication and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. (The sermon begins at 23:00.)
It was Pentecost Sunday, when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, who the Bible describes as wind, breath, power, teacher, and comforter. The Spirit is God’s ongoing presence with us. Click on the photo of Everett to see more photos from the day.

In worship we also had kites in the sanctuary, thanks to Craig Wilson and we said thank you and good-bye to Rev. Clara Thompson, who has been at Covenant since 2015.
As if that wasn’t enough, the children’s message was a delightful song about God, as the Trinity. Cindy Lovell wrote new lyrics to “One” from “A Chorus Line”, and her dance team did a great job. (Watch at 17:45 or click on the photo)

"Three! Lord God, Jesus, Spirit… They are called the trinity
One! They are all the same God, equal but unique, see?
Lord God is master of all and God made the earth.
Jesus the son was human and he was birthed."

This coming Sunday is Trinity Sunday, when we remember and celebrate that God is one-in-three and three-in-one. Traditionally we think of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But the Bible offers a vast variety of imagery, as you can see in this graphic, inspired by a Presbyterian study from several years ago.
Thanks to the hymn-writing poetry of Thomas Troeger, we get more biblical images to reflect on our Trinitarian God.

If you are making five minutes a day for prayer this month—and I hope you are!—maybe you simply want to choose one of these words to ponder during your prayer time.
Thanks be to God, who is known and yet beyond any words.
