Greetings!
The doors of the church are open, and it’s great to see people in-person, on Sundays and throughout the week. The doors of Bradfield Hall are open, and people are drinking coffee, eating donuts, and chatting together. The door of my office at church is open, and I’ve enjoyed visits with many people over the past few weeks. And at home, we’ve enjoyed opening our doors and having friends over in the past few weeks.
Yes I know Covid is not over yet, but it’s wonderful to be able to carefully find ways to open doors and reconnect.
Probably the least well-known of the “I am” statements is Jesus saying “I am the door.” (Some translations say “I am the gate.”) Jesus seems to be inviting us through the door, toward green pastures and new life.
So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the door for the sheep. All the people who came before me were thieves and robbers. The sheep did not listen to them. I am the door, and the person who enters through me will be saved and will be able to come in and go out and find pasture. A thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, but I came to give life—life in all its fullness.
--John 12:7-10, New Century Version
I love the image of an open door, which invites us to step into something new and at the same time reminds us to open doors for each other.

That might mean a literal open door, to welcome people into your home. Or metaphorically, it might mean making space for conversation and connection. Or it might mean taking steps forward, even into an unknown future.
If you need more inspiration about opening doors, take two minutes for this uplifting video about a woman who takes a risk and sets a table, inviting people to open their doors for a shared meal, which even includes bread and wine. (The video is actually a commercial for a Canadian supermarket, encouraging people to eat together.) Click on the image above.
In these challenging times, we need to keep working on staying connected—to God and to each other, and on moving forward.
On the journey together,
Charlie

Lenten Coloring Sheets
Just a friendly reminder that we have coloring sheets for every "I AM" statement. Pick up a copy in the gathering space when you are here at church or find them on the back of the prayer lists. Check out Margaret Hickman's "I am the Vine" piece here! She gifted us with this this past week.
