To our members and colleagues:
With gratitude, from
Dean Falkenberg, P. Biol.,
ASPB Executive Director
It has been some time since I wrote for the e-news, and many things have gone on in the background. Over the past few years since I joined the ASPB as Executive Director, we have seen some 5000 applications (I think we are going to be in the 10,000’s for membership numbers in the next 2 to 3 years, and achieving or surpassing 5,000 registrants!) Also among those many things, we have tackled registration through equivalency, we have weathered a pandemic, and we have seen the introduction of new legislation (we are expecting to be under the PGA in fall of 2026), to name but a few.
Personally, I have been a witness to many of the great milestones in members' careers, the most profound of which is being able to make that call to a successful applicant that finally achieved Professional status, always a bucket-filling experience!
The ASPB and its Board have stood by me as I endured some of my toughest tribulations (managing both my parents' health and end-of-life events) and they have supported me in celebrating my family’s successes, with my daughter competing in national and international dance competitions and my son making Team Canada last year!
It is indeed with gratitude that after much consideration this past year, I am announcing my retirement, to take place in April of 2027. The search committee for my successor has been established, and you can expect to see postings to that effect shortly.
Sincerely,
Dean Falkenberg, P. Biol.
Executive Director, ASPB
