Project Overview

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is making improvements to Interstate 405 (I-405), between Interstate 5 (I-5) and Harbor Boulevard. The project will improve safety for all modes of travel, increase the life expectancy of pavement, enhance traffic operations, and mitigate congestion.

Project Improvements

Enhance safety for traveling public and maintenance crews.


Repair and replace concrete slabs, lanes, traffic loop detectors, and bridge rehabilitation


Traffic management system improvements, including ramp and roadway enhancements, and an updated metering system.


Irrigation and landscape enhancements.


NEW! Park and Ride facility located on Bristol Street at SB I-405.

Nightly lane, ramp, and connector closures are anticipated Monday night, April 21, through Friday night, April 25, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.*



* Construction schedule is subject to change.

Crews are conducting roadway and electrical activities at night on northbound (NB) and southbound (SB) I-405 and on freeway ramps. This activity requires intermittent lane, ramp and connector closures at night. 


Please be advised that this work may be loud. Follow detour signs in place to navigate around closures.

Intermittent Freeway Lane Closures on:

  • NB I-405 between I-5 and MacArthur Boulevard 
  • SB I-405 between Jamboree Road and I-5


Intermittent Ramp Closures*

  • NB I-405 loop on-ramp from EB Irvine Center Drive
  • NB I-405 on-ramp from WB Sand Canyon Avenue
  • NB I-405 off-ramp to Jamboree Road
  • SB I-405 on- and off-ramps at Irvine Center Drive
  • SB I-405 loop on-ramp from WB Sand Canyon Avenue
  • SB I-405 on- and off-ramps at University Drive/Jeffrey Road
  • SB I-405 on-ramp from EB Culver Drive
  • SB I-405 off-ramp to Jamboree Road


Intermittent Connector Closures*

* Consecutive ramps will not be closed at the same time.
