EYE DROPS CONSUMER NOTICE:

The FDA has issued a warning to not use certain eye drops due to eye infection risk.

Throughout 2023, a number of notices have come out regarding potentially unsafe eye drops. As of October 27, 2023, the FDA warned consumers to avoid the purchase and use of 26 over-the-counter eye drops1 due to a potential risk of eye infections and possible vision loss (whole or partial). Three days later, an additional product was added to the list.


Read on to learn some of the more common symptoms of an eye infection2 so you have a better idea of what to look out for.


  • Early symptoms of eye infection may include:
  • Red eyes
  • Eye itching/irritation
  • Eye pain
  • Watery eyes
  • Swelling in eye area


  • Later symptoms of eye infection may include:
  • Yellow, sticky discharge from eyes (may cause eyelashes to stick together)
  • Light sensitivity (photophobia)
  • Blurry vision
  • Fever
