CONVERGENCE Columbus Launches 2nd Edition of Trailblazing Housing Professionals Survey

Four years ago, a single survey changed Columbus' homeownership landscape.

The 2022 Housing Professionals survey, in collaboration with iEmergent, the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and the Mortgage Bankers Association, gave CONVERGENCE Columbus an unfiltered look at the barriers Black and underserved homebuyers faced in Columbus’ housing finance system. What we heard was urgent and we had work to do.

Since 2022, the coalition rolled up its sleeves to create the following interventions based off the survey results:

• $6.5M in flexible down payment assistance brought to Franklin County
• The Bloom614 hub launched to guide underserved buyers along their journey
• 300+ Black, minority, and first-generation families became homeowners
• The racial homeownership gap in the City of Columbus narrowed from 28% to 24% from 2021 - 2025.

But the work isn’t done. Housing inventory is still tight, predatory tnvestors are still circling, and too many Columbus families are still locked out of homeownership. That’s why CONVERGENCE Columbus is back with the 2026 Housing Professionals Survey. Special thanks to our survey launch guest speakers Dwain Davis from JPMorgan Chase and Laird Nossuli from iEmergent for underscoring the importance of gathering data to inform intentional activities that knock down our local homeownership barriers.

With Central Ohio's homeownership gap standing at 31%, we need loan originators and real estate professionals on the front lines to tell us what’s changed, what hasn’t, and where we need to strategically intervene to close our local homeownership gaps.
