COP 26---November 11, 2021--e-note #7
What's HappeningView as Webpage
Last days left....for critical negotiations.
The UK COP 26 Presidency published the first draft to be negotiated and agreed by countries attending the talk.

Countries are being urged by Science and Civil Society all around the world to strengthen their carbon-cutting targets by the end of 2022. It is clear that there's a sense of emergency as the meeting floated the idea of countries coming back with new plans every year, with new nationally determined contributions (NDC).

Despite pledges made, the world is heading for 2.4°C of warming and one billion people could be affected by fatal heat and humidity if the global average temperature rises by 2°C above pre-industrial levels. Vulnerable countries say rich nations are pushing back against their attempts to secure compensation for the damage caused by climate change.

Finance, adaptation and mitigation, loss and damage are the critical points in the current negotiation we need to monitor carefully. Our biggest concern is that there is no firm commitment globally to end fossil fuel extraction and production.
"We need to be on an emergency footing for the planet" said Mary Robinson, former Irish President.

While discussions go on and on .. it seems promises are made without plans for delivery...

Vulnerable countries already are suffering from regular torrential rainfall.
Here in a village in Sri-Lanka, in Videthalthivu in Mannar where hundred of families are affected by flooding. Food security is at stake. It is happening now! https://www.tamilguardian.com/content/heavy-rains-devastates-mannar

A local correspondant said that the situation is worsening year after year.
How can people trust their political leaders discussing at length while climate change has a harmful impact on their lives?
Prayers/Reflections

A reflection from the Laudato Si Movement.
1.How much do I feel concerned about climate change?
How do I live my integral ecological conversion and my faith:
facing the present death in the world while holding hope of a new world?
2. Do I sow the Kindom of God around me, and offer thanks and hope?
3. Do I trust fully in God and abandon myself to the action of the Spirit?
4. Do I help my brothers and sisters discover the profound meaning of everything lived though a life of gratitude, service and solidarity pierced by hope?

Personal
A growing awareness of climate crisis is happening because we see it happening daily. Yet many are denying it.
