President's Message
from Sandra R. Wolkoff, PhD., LCSW-R

It has been crazy

I have been crazy

My body has been making me nuts

The news has landed in my belly and made me sick

Worry has become the prison in which I am kept

Panic is the salt in my food

Soap is my drug of choice

Sanitizer is my manna from heaven

Texts tether me to loved ones

Or just the musings of the internet

Pictures of my children and grandchildren are my oxygen

Well, those are some of my thoughts. Here is another one, from Morning Money, a news feed I get:  “GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING  — Or whatever day this is. Nobody knows. Days no longer have meaning. Time doesn’t really either, as far as MM can tell. It’s always corona-day and corona-o’clock.”

I lost my 19 year old son, Justin, five years ago.
On June 24, 2014, my world was ripped apart.

Dear COPE Families and Friends,
Hi. My name is Al Carlo and there are thousands of parents like me who are living their lives torn apart as well. I was desperate for help. Sometimes questioning my life. Why am I here? Why should I stay here? Then I found COPE. COPE is a bereavement and grief support program for parents who have lost a child.

This next part is important!

COPE saved my life.

Telehealth...Give it a try.

In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic and the necessity to practice social distancing, COPE is taking advantage of all that technology has to to offer. You should have already received several emails requesting to e-sign a Telehealth consent form. We are hoping that you were able to sign it and send it back. If not, there is still time.

To “flatten the curve,” COPE has moved all support groups to secure teleconferencing. This is the first step in keeping our families connected in a confidential and private setting. While this type of group may be foreign to many, it is a really great opportunity to support your fellow group members not only in their grief, but to also maintain some sense of connectedness and normalcy. Even if you are hesitant to try Telehealth, please give it a try - just once. If you absolutely hate it you don’t have to do it again! Not only does Telehealth allow you to be anywhere when you’re participating in group, you can also be in your pj’s and no one would know!

A note from our Camp Director Ann Fuchs

Hi Everyone,

I can ask “What’s new?” but I think I already know! Maybe you’re doing a little cleaning, social media fun, reading, TV watching, puzzle challenges, home schooling, cooking, ordering in and realizing teachers and stay at home moms are priceless!!!
The good thing, I have realized, is anything you want to know is on the internet-from exercise videos to recipes to children’s games to cutting bangs. And, by the way, good thing I will have a chance to try again with those bangs!

Farewelling and Fundraising & Fairways

COPE is proud to be part of the Farewelling podcast and community.

Check out the Farewelling Minisode: "When a Child Dies - Coping and Community" by clicking here :

How can we confront the loss of a child? As parents, it’s hard to contemplate how we’d ever move forward. As siblings, this type of loss can shake us to our core. In this mini-sode, Karen and Liz of Farewelling speak with Adam Rabinovitch, COPE's Executive Director.

We also recorded an episode for Golf Event Planning's "Fundraising & Fairways" which hopefully provides a little distraction for you - you can access through this link for Apple Podcasts.
