BACK TO SCHOOL
We hoped to be in our new Cordata Park Pavilion by now, but the building is not quite ready yet. We promise to be there for our May 14 meeting. In the meantime, we are very grateful to be hosted by the Cordata Elementary School again.
Meet Mayor Kim Lund
and the Cordata City Council Representatives
Mayor Kim Lund, Hannah Stone and Hollie Huthman will be our special guests for the March meeting. We hope you can join us as we hear from our Bellingham elected officials and pose your own questions.
We will be serving free pizza again as well as some other snacks, so bring the kids and bring your appetite.
For the first time, we plan to offer this meeting through Zoom as well. If you can't make the meeting, you can join in digitally via this Zoom Link.
If you're asked for a Meeting ID is is 255 603 0627 and the Passcode is 123456
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU -- IN PERSON OR ON THE SCREEN!

The boundary lines for county legislative districts, precincts, and council districts were changed in November, 2022. The changes occur to correct for registered voter imbalances as determined by the most recent federal census. Cordata has two City Council representatives: Hannah Stone and Hollie Huthman. Both of whom will be attending our March 12 meeting. You can view the most recent boundary map HERE. | |
Our Cordata Neighborhood website has a new hosting home. The website address -- yourcna.org -- is the active web address. The former address of cordataneighborhood.org is no longer a working address.
Help Us Out: We would like to include more photos on our website of the people, places and things that make Cordata so unique and wonderful. Send us your photos so we can add them to our gallery page. You can send them to k8mcdonald1016@gmail.com or use a link on the website. Thank you.

FENTANYL -- CRISIS
It only takes two milligrams.
That’s the amount of fentanyl — enough to coat the tip of a pencil, equivalent to 10 or 15 grains of table salt — that can kill a human being. Fifty times more powerful than heroin, this is the synthetic opioid fueling an explosive increase in overdose deaths both nationally and locally.
This crisis is claiming lives every day. Learn more about it in the recent Salish Current issue. LINK HERE

The Whatcom County Street Medicine Team was established in November 2022 as a response to the need for accessible healthcare among those experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County. The Street Medicine Team brings medical aid to those experiencing homelessness and provides a multitude of healthcare services. These services include first aid, medical triage with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the hospital system, medical advice, and evaluation of acute medical conditions when needed. Have you joined the pickleball craze yet? This game is amazingly popular, and if you haven't heard the siren sound of "pop-pop" from a pickleball court, you may in near future.
Its popularity is due in part to the ease of learning how to play, the relative lack of overly strenuous exercise, and the social nature of the game.
We are fortunate to have several court options in Cordata, whether you're new or experienced. We have the outdoor courts at Whatcom Community College, the indoor courts at Volli, the indoor courts at the mall (for only a few more weeks), and the new courts soon to open at Cordata Park.
So grab your paddle and get out there. More info HERE

We have two resource links from Greg Hope (Education and Outreach Coordinator for the City of Bellingham) is called the Home Hazard Hunt.
The first one is on Communication. Stay connected with your loved ones in a disaster! Identify at least one person who can serve as an out-of-area contact and relay messages between members of the household. Each household member should know how to contact this person and practice your communication plan annually. Video Link HERE.
The second resource is on your Action Plan. Develop your disaster plan before you need it! Practice safely exiting your home during an emergency and meeting up outside. Make sure that all members of the household know how to find and use your fire extinguisher, utility controls, and first aid supplies.Video Link HERE.

Northwest Free Repairs offers sessions at the downtown library and our Bellis Fair Branch for free repairs of household items.
We will be continuing our repair sessions on the second and third Sundays of every month in Maker’s Space (adjacent to Dick’s Sporting Goods) in the Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm.
We are a group of volunteers who are dedicated to conserving the earth’s resources and decreasing the burden on our overtaxed landfill areas by repairing and rehabilitating broken household items that would otherwise be discarded.

The Cordata Gallery has extended their current exhibition through March 9, due to persistent public interest and demand.
Moments Unveiled is an exhibition that celebrates the profound artistic journey of local artist David Syre, who has always been a visionary with a unique perspective on the world. Syre's work is a testament to his creative exploration and dedication to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Through his works, Syre invites us to a realm where art is a gateway to understanding the world around us.

I joined a Work Party on 2/17 at Cordata Park. There were at least 40 participants helping to remove blackberry bushes near the Bear Creek area.
I was (embarrassingly) surprised and pleased to learn that there are salmon in this little creek at our Park and our efforts were to help their habitat.
The Park Work Parties are always fun, dirty, and informative while leaving you with a sense of contributing to our ecosystem. More info HERE.
