CORDATA COMMUNITY GARDEN NEWS

All 55 Cordata Community Garden beds are occupied! A seed and starts exchange is planned for Saturday May 17th. We've purchased new fence posts to support those that have deteriorated, and we will be reinforcing the fence soon. By May or June, we will be purchasing wood chips to spread between beds to prevent weed growth.

The CCG is green and clean! No more noise, gaseous fumes, or expense to mow and trim the garden's surroundings. The weed-eater and hedge trimmer are battery-powered (through a solar collector), and the grass is cut by a clean, quiet, sustainable push reel mower. All of us at the Cordata Community Garden are enjoying the recent sun and warmth and are looking forward to more of it.

Greg Hope (Education and Outreach Coordinator for the City of Bellingham) offers the following recommendations on protecting ourselves, our neighbors and our loved ones.

A grab-and-go kit includes just the essentials for two to three days and is portable enough to enable rapid evacuation in an emergency.

The current recommendation is to store one (1) gallon of water per person per day for a two-week period. The good news is that there are a variety of options, from store-bought bottled water to DIY containers to domestic hot water heaters.

A message from the Bellingham Bells:

As our 2025 season begins, we wanted to alert you and your neighbors that we plan to host five fireworks shows at Joe Martin Field during the 2025 season (June-August). We understand fireworks displays can be troublesome for some individuals and their animals who are sensitive to the noise resulting from these shows. Due to this concern, we wanted to let you know of the dates well in advance. It is our hopes we can alert as many individuals in advance as possible and mitigate the effects of avoid catching our neighbors by surprise.

2025 Fireworks Shows

June 4, July 5, July 16, July 18, August 6

All shows will begin immediately following the conclusion of our game, approximately 9:00 PM. Shows expected to last approximately 10 minutes.

Message from the Belingham Pickleball Club

After lengthy and thoughtful consideration, we regret to announce that we will not be moving forward with the covered courts pavilion at Whatcom Community College.

Despite our best efforts, the findings of the feasibility study made it clear that the infrastructure costs are significantly higher than anticipated, and the overall project cost is beyond what the BPC can support.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who dedicated time and energy to exploring this opportunity, .

. .

While we know this news is disappointing, we deeply appreciate the community’s enthusiasm and support. Our commitment to expanding access to covered courts remains strong. We will continue seeking viable solutions and exploring new possibilities to serve our community’s needs.

Sincerely,

The Board of the BPC
