Highlights from the Community Health Learning Trip
February 4-12, 2014

CORE Group hosted its second Community Health Learning Trip in February 2014 which brought together a group of global health practitioners to visit and learn from the Comprehensive Rural Health Project in Jamkhed, India.

Participants spent a week visiting local villages and learning from community health workers about the design, implementation, and scale up of one of the most successful community health programs in the world. Please click here to learn more about the Community Health Learning Trips or to view the video or slideshow.

Congratulations CORE Group Polio Project-India

On February 15, 2014, the CORE Group Polio Project--India launched the Drops of Dialogue photo gallery at the Moradadbad District Hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India. The photo gallery outlines the historical milestones of the fight to eradicate polio in India. The photo gallery includes photos and exhibits representing the craftsmanship on polio messages from selected high-risk districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The ceremony kicked off with a tribute to the incredible partnership between CGPP-India, PCI, WHO, UNICEF and Rotary International to immunize children, engage communities, raise awareness about polio and routine immunization, and most importantly, overcome resistance to the polio vaccine.
USAID Sahel Regional Resilience Workshop
March 17-21, 2014
Niamey, Niger

The USAID Sahel Regional Resilience Workshop was held in Niamey, Niger from March 17-21. CORE Group, as part of the Technical and Operational Performance Support Program (TOPS), facilitated and provided content development and operational support for this participatory learning workshop.

The event highlighted the themes of information sharing and collaboration as a means to develop USAID's resilience strategy for the Sahel. Small group work created an environment where participants freely built upon and developed new ideas for designing a resilience strategy based on experience and expertise.

Health and Development Programming Integration Toolkit

Integration is a concept that is often used but seldom achieved. The nature of health and development funding and focus on specialty expertise is often at odds with the need to integrate services and/or interventions at ground level. To help operationalize and understand the concept of integration, PCI under the auspices of CORE's HIV/AIDS Working Group, developed a Health and Development Programming Integration Toolkit designed to pull together in one, user-friendly place, as many resources, tools, ideas and recommendations on integration as possible.

The toolkit was created by Senior Vice President for Programs for PCI, Janine Schooley, along with the help of PCI interns Kristen Kolleda and Samantha Kraft. To contribute additional information, suggest new resources, or provide general feedback on the integration toolkit page, please complete the feedback form. To learn more about the toolkit, please click here

A Framework for Integrating Childhood Tuberculosis into Community-based Child Health Care

In light of World TB Day on March 24, we are excited to launch a new childhood TB resource, A Framework for Integrating Childhood Tuberculosis into Community-based Child Health Care

CORE Group's TB Working Group and Community Child Health Working Group, together with The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), created a framework document that outlines community-based strategies for integrating childhood TB activities with other maternal and child health care services through existing diagnosis and management algorithms such as Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) and Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI).

Endorse CHW Principles of Practice

Please take a moment and show your support for the CHW Principles of Practice - guiding principles for non-governmental organizations and their partners for coordinated national scale-up of community health worker programs.

The CHW Principles of Practice aim to guide NGOs to work with existing health structures through strong, long-term partnerships. They address CHW program issues such as competitive and duplicative working strategies, diverse incentives, parallel services, and diversity in supervision and reporting, among others.
