"FAITH, FORESIGHT, AND DISCERNMENT"
Greetings Fellow Ministers,

What an interesting week we have had across our country. Like many of you, I have been watching the events unfold regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) and have been intrigued by the responses. On a side note, as big March Madness fans, our family will miss cheering on our favorite teams in the NCAA basketball tournament this year.

All that being said, I know each of us are reminded of the truth in Scripture. 2 Timothy 1:7 has been an anchor verse this week. You know it well. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” I am also comforted by the admonition in Psalm 20:7 which says, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

While I realize that all of us are strong and secure in our faith during this season of social unsettledness, we also are shepherds in communities that have people who may not have the same level of “peace in the storm.” Every community in our region will respond differently to the concern of the coronavirus. However, there are two things I believe strongly during this season: 1) God never fails and 2) Our churches will have an opportunity to shine for Him to the communities in which we are strategically placed.

None of us know how this concern will develop around our "neck of the woods" in the region, but all of us know that the Lord will be with us and will give us strength to manage whatever may come. I have been praying that the Lord would give you faith, foresight, and discernment in how you lead your churches through this dynamic.  Some of you may not sense an urgency on this… Others of you may. Either way, let us be praying for each other and believing that the Lord will use our churches as salt and light in our communities during this season. Our Lord is the rock and there are people in our neighborhoods that may be standing on sand. Let us help them find the rock of Jesus while the world around is feeling shaken from the coronavirus.

Several of our ministers have offered helpful resources and website links for churches and in how to navigate the current dynamics of COVID-19. I will provide those in this email in case you find it to be helpful for you and your church and the community you serve in.

Helpful Scriptures for Congregations:
Psalm 91:5-7: You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
Psalm 91:10-11: No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
Luke 12:25-26: Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
2 Timothy 1:7: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
