Upcoming Worship

  • Sunday, October 25, 10:30am “A Ground as Broad as Space: The Heresy of Abner Kneeland ~ Rev. Kristina Church, Minister. Let's honor the 250th anniversary of Universalism in the United States by remembering one of its most colorful characters! Abner Kneeland's unusual ideas and bold writings landed him in hot water more than once. Just how far did a minister have to go to be too radical for Universalism? How do his shocking theological and political notions fit into our religious movement today?

  • Sunday, November 1, 10:30am - TBD ~ Gross/Guernsey Program Group
Let Your Light Shine

During our Chalice Lighting at Sunday worship, we invite everyone in attendance who has a chalice or candle at home to light it at the same time, and hold it up for one another to see on Zoom. Let our separate fires kindle one flame!
Message from the Minister

Thanks to all who joined us for the Ministerial Startup Workshop on Tuesday night! We had a lovely group, and the evening featured a rich conversation about FUSW's history and traditions, facilitated by our Congregational Life representative, Rev. Evin Carvill Ziemer. I was so grateful for all who brought their curiosity and appreciation for this congregation, and shared so much with me. As I continue to get to know you, I hope this conversation will continue! There is a weekly opportunity to get together on Wednesdays at noon, for Wednesday Virtual Lunch with the Minister on Zoom (find link in "Upcoming Events," above), and that's one place where we can keep getting acquainted. Please join us if you can. And plans are in the works for some other "fun-raising" activities as the cold-weather seasons get underway, so you'll be hearing more about that in coming weeks. Meanwhile, stay well and safe, and I'll see you soon! ~ Rev. Kristina
Book Group

FUSW has an informal book group! We are focusing on Black novelists and the first title we read together is Toni Morrison’s classic Beloved. We will meet later this fall to discuss the book. Interested in joining us? Contact Denise Woodin (dcw2@optonline.net).
Share Your Recommendations

Is there something you have enjoyed - an article, podcast, book, movie, or special trail to walk - that you would like to share with the congregation? We invite you to forward your recommendations to Rina (admin@fusw.org) so we may include them in future issues of the Scoop.
2020-2021 Program Groups

Our updated program group lists are now posted on the Members page of our website. We have made some changes since last year, so please check carefully for your name. Program Group leaders will be reaching out to you soon. If you have questions, contact Betsy Kates (bkates42@verizon.net). If you need the password to the members page, contact Rina Schunk (admin@fusw.org).
Share the Plate Re-imagined

The Board needs your help in renewing our commitment to our Social Justice actions and our Share the Plate support. We will be highlighting one organization or justice initiative each month in the coming year, and invite you to submit nominations to the Board. The organization must be one that you support with your passion, time, and talent, as well as your dollars. It must have an impact locally, even if it is a national organization, and it must be a registered 501(c)(3). We see this as a way to encourage others to join us in something we think is worthwhile, a way to support each other’s interests, and a way to increase our visibility in the wider community. We anticipate having you or a representative from the organization speak briefly during a service in the month when that organization is highlighted. Contact Susan Greenberg (fuswtreasurer@gmail.com) with your suggestions. Click HERE and scroll to the Share the Plate section to print and fill out a form that you can scan and email to Rina (admin@fusw.org) or to the link to the form you can submit online.
