Ultrasonic Nebulizers (Fluid Atomizers)
Ultrasonic nebulizers are very effective for atomizing a wide range of liquids. Traditional piezo nebulizers work by immersing a single piezoelectric ceramic disc several centimeters below the surface of a liquid and applying a drive voltage which causes the ceramic disk to vibrate at megahertz level frequencies. The compression waves generated by this extremely high rate of vibration expel droplets from the surface of the liquid. Droplet size can be tuned by varying the drive frequency.

Piezoelectric Ceramics Used in Sensing Applications
Piezoelectric ceramics used as
sensors convert inputs from physical, chemical, and biological sources into electrical signals that are further handled by data processing systems. Typical piezoelectric sensors generate a signal when there is a change in an applied force or pressure.
Accelerometers measure vibrations or acceleration of various devices.
Transducers produce and receive audible sound or ultrasonic sound signals.
Flow sensors operate by measuring differences in transit time for a signal traveling in the direction of liquid flow compared to transit time for a signal traveling against liquid flow.
Level sensors operate by intermittently shooting ultrasound beams at the surface level of a material and subsequently sensing
the reflected ultrasound beam.
