2020 marks the centennial of American women nationally winning the right to vote. This was a decades-long nonviolent civil rights movement that lies at the heart of our democracy and the centennial is a cause for great celebration. Learn about the drive for equal rights and how women won not only passage of the 19th Amendment but also their political freedom.
This beautifully illustrated presentation reviews women’s grassroots campaigns in the states, including California and New York, and nationally, including lobbying, picketing, boycotts and direct action. See how important women’s political actions have been in the expansion of democracy in the United States. Mr. Cooney, author of “Winning the Vote: The Triumph of the American Woman Suffrage Movement,” has studied women’s drive for equal rights for more than 25 years and has become a recognized expert on this historic movement.
